Great!
This is easy. I like his prose. I like his stories and how haunting many of them are. I like his sparse language, and yet he says so much with inferences, symbolism, and undertones. I like his masculine ways of looking at things. BTW, I am one of the moderators. Great to see you here, and I hope you get a lot of comments. Thanks for starting this discussion. Gary
They have a revised version with the original text, and then added to the end are like 30 different endings Hemingway came up with.....it's available in hardback now in stores, and on Amazon. I also have a MP3 set of discs that has all his major novels in audio, and I plan to listen to Farewell to Arms with that disc, and to read along with the book.My bookclub read this book a couple years ago,and discussed it on Ernest's birthday in July. I had a cake made with his picture on the cake, and we sang Happy Birthday, and had a birthday party before we discussed the book.
Lisa , after you finish the book, watch the old movie with Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes. It's quite good, and the whole film is free on youtube...which is where I saw it.
Go for it, Lisa! It's a great book! Then after you read it see the b & w movie with Gary Cooper, and Helen Hayes.
I just looked at this, and the audio samples are working now.... take a listen! I am so glad I ordered this!
Check out the pictures Will just posted at the bottom on the page of his trip to Ernest's home in Key West. I have "liked" them all,and he and I have made comments concerning the pictures, cause I was there myself in 2004. Like, and add any comments of your own if you so desire.....Anyone else visited the home?
i have this audiobook set now & listened today. it is excellent! the sale price is good through the 15th. treat yourself. this is worth it!!!

I am reaching out to let you know about an exciting new release that I thought you might interest you, as I saw you were a moderator of The Importance of Reading Ernest group. We’re releasing the special collector’s edition of THE ERNEST HEMINGWAY AUDIOBOOK LIBRARY on Tuesday November 20th, 2012.
This collection brings together all of Hemingway’s novels, short stories, and nonfiction for the first time in an audio format. Narrators include actors, Donald Sutherland, William Hurt, John Slattery, and Stacy Keach among others. In addition, the collection includes a never-before-heard interview with Hemingway’s only surviving son, Patrick. Patrick Hemingway talks about his childhood in Key West and reflects on his father’s life and legacy.
We will be offering 40% off of the collection through our website for a limited time. I was hoping you might be interested in sharing this information with your group. I can supply excerpt from any of the titles included in the collection, as well as a link to our special promotion.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Best,
Lauren

It is about man against nature....and he's a lonely old man.... read one of his other novels for women...lol.....
I remember when I was really excited to have over 100 members. I am thrilled speechless to have over 200 lovers of Hemingway in this group! Bravo to everyone involved. More discussion please...... LOL!Cheers. Drink a toast to Papa!

I totally agree Tim. Yes, I like most of Papa's books, but this one did feel more relaxed, while remembering his days in Paris.....a relaxed place to be. You might enjoy Paula McClain's book THE PARIS WIFE, written from Hadley's point of view of what went on in Paris. I was quite surprised on how much I enjoyed it.!
Grow up before you read this book!!I have read, and reread this book many times in my life, and love it more each time. I get sick and tired of seeing 13 year old students bashing a book, and an author meant for mature adults. Read this book, or any of Hemingway's at that age,and yes you might hate it. But grow up to a mature adult, and read Hemingway then, so you can truly be mature enough to fully appreciate him for what he is. A talented, and articulate author who points out all the sides of life, good, and bad!! We did this book for my bookclub and had hours of insight, and conversation. Highly recommended for a bookclub!!! Enjoy!!! I have loved this so much, I had to visit Hemingway's home in Key West ,Florida!!! Read TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT on the waters of the Gulf and Atlantic!
John wrote: "I received this as a gift recently. Have only read EH's Intro so far, but hope to get to the rest."Very cool, John!
Would be cool to have any further discussion after reading the article, and /or reading the alternate endings in the book.....
