I visited Hemingway's home in Key West too , Tracy. The Pilar is not there, my friend....
It's in Cuba..... at his house there. ;-)

My wife's biggest complaint about Hemingway's books are the main male characters. I keep telling her that it's a sign of the times, and reflects men's place in the world, and their behavior was part of trying to fit into the doctrine of the times.....she doesn't buy it.....I believe Jordan's arrogance is all bravado, just wait till you finish the book...... you will see a more sensitive side to the character, and I feel Hemingway was much the same....It was such a strong part of society , back in those days to act tough, and be macho.......

I thought it was very cool that Hemingway named his boat after Pilar.....a strong woman indeed!

I'd like to hear about this myself.

I am making bat place setting cards, (they are actually whistles) and listening to Edith Pilaf, and train sound effects.

Ok, Gary, looks Great! I just removed Farewell to Arms for the same dates, just now....so....tell me how the hell did you do that? Send me a PM email on here, buddy? I need to learn. I tried before, and couldn't get it to work...... *smirk*
Gary wrote: "So funny, Gary. I'll look around. It's not critical, however."Yeah, but it would be nice. I tried one evening, and got the date changed, but says Farewell to Arms, which is wrong......This website has been messed up for some time, and stuff not working correctly....since the big take over occurred..... I will try again , tomorrow. Today, I am cleaning, and preparing for a murder mystery night with my bookclub at my house. Busy boy today!
Gary wrote: "Gary, would you mind posting it in the currently reading area in order to attract interest?"Gary, I tried. With no luck. I can't remember or figure out how to do that. Help me????

Yep! bring on the reading, and bring on the discussion!

I just don't get it ladies, why other women in my bookclub thought the character was such a jerk.....

You know, when we read this for bookclub, there were 7 women, and me...one man.....two of the women hated this book, and think hemingway is a jerk....my wife being one of those women..... theydidn't think anything was tender about it at all.....I was like, did they read the wrong selection? How can this be? I read this book, and thought it was a beautiful love story...I don't get it.....

I am telling you....it is a great book. People don't know what they are missing by not reading Papa!

Sleep Hollow is on Fox. I will return later to comment. Gotta run! This show is great!

Lisa, you want to start a new thread with the title FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS with a starting date of Nov. 1st? Or shall I do it? Being the moderator and all? Your choice, my dear......

Awesome!

I agree Christine, very minimal language."Hemingway is the master of inferences, and drawing conclusions, which is what makes his writing great!

Have you seen the movie Silver Linings Playbook, where the main male character throws Farewell to Arms through the window? Great movie, if you have not seen it!

wallops?

Hemingway really writes gritty raw stories, and does it with few words..... a man of few words that really whollops you in the head. (is that a word?) lol.
