i guess i am going to have to go and read this again, and look deeper. i have time today. i have my project for my graduate class finished, emailed, and hope i get my A . i am feeling top notch right now!

teaching for what purpose exactly??

ok, stephen, elaborate on that last question.... huh??
i also think hemingway had the hots for the matadors. i mean, the tight pants, wheeeeee!!! lol!

i think it's fantasy based. i think hemingway had a fantasy of being a bullfighter, and lived it vicariously through the fights and matadors he watched.

I have read the story, you bet!! do you mean glamour? other motivations, what to be the most important, by offing the competition?is that what you mean?

accident? murder? mayhem? discussion?

yes, i can speak and write english, most of the time! lol!

yes, the chase, and in this story, a fuck up, that turns out differently then expected, due to playing around, or horsing around, that's gone bad, so to speak.

i want to see a bullfight where hemimgway watched. i also want to see the guys run from the bulls in pampola. ( i know i misspelled that.) notice i said i want to watch. i don't think i could do the run these days.

Madrid i would say must be the bullfighting capital of the world, wouldn' t you say, even today??? isn't that what hemingway's title refers to?

well, bullfighting still happens in spain, i know, and probably mexico still. it is still considered an important part of those cultures, and even tho many people may think it's animal cruelty, it is still acceptable in other places as recreation.
When I think of non spanish cultures having a tough guy event, i think of football, boxing, and this is where FIGHT CLUB , both the book, and the movie fit in. You hear about how that fight clubs actually do exist, and men beat the tar out of each other, on a friday night.
Competition is alive and well in the usa,and also there's illegal cock fighting, etc, for example that goes on. People also fight pit bulls. Think of competition in the workplace, and how ruthless people are with each other in many of "society's" situations.

the competition, the thrill of the kill.... isn't that also why hemingway enjoyed watching bullfighting, and hunted in the wilds of africa, and fished in the caribbean sea?

interesting stuff, stephen. i mean another example of this is the gladiators, and throwing the christians to the lions in the coliseum in rome. spectactor sport. blood, guts, and death.

matadors are the ultimate in cool, debonair, sexy, and masculine. i mean being chased by a bull. how can anything be any more tough, and macho then that????
hemingway loved watching men be men, i do believe. and many times he wanted to be right in the middle of it. however, in this story........ things don't turn out exactly as they planned.........

next drink, to try. mint juleps!

I have a great recipe for this drink. one of papa's favorites. of course, you must have fresh mint. i have been growing it this summer, and i've made lots of mojitos with it. anyone want me to post the recipe??? it's good stuff, bitches!!

all things masculine, macho. proving how tough men are. that is a theme that runs in many of hemingway's stories.

I just read this story tonight. Plan to read it again. First impressions???? MACHO MACHO MAN!!! *village people*. I WANNA BE A MACHO MAN!! bullfighting, sparring, all macho , shit, eh??? hemingway loved to spar with boxing, and play with knives, etc. that's my first impression of the story.

try again. it's happened to me before. you suck it up,and do it again. sorry. buddy!
