Booze (11 new)

12350 you know hemingway loved mojitos, and homemade daquari's, not the fruit ones, or frozen. it's heavy booze.

my mojitos turned out great. actually made them twice. ready to do it again!
12350 hey gio!! why relocated to london? for your job?? i'd love to see london. are you up for a houseguest?? lol!!!!
12350 thanks , tadpole. it does enlighten the others. be cool! this heat the past couple of days!!!!
12350 Anybody else gonna share where you hail from????
12350 not surprised. we are still fucked up today because of it. obama has a big mess to clean up.
12350 the bush years????
12350 I have a bottle of Maker's Mark Whiskey that my father in law sealed himself with the wax. I've never opened it. I don't plan to, but I am thinking I need to get myself another bottle so I can open that one and try it.Always amazing to me that where Jack Daniels is made, and marketed, that it's a dry county, and you'll not allowed to sample it at the distillery. I've not been there, but I was in one in Missouri, and went into the barrel shed. The aroma made you drunk in there! Ha!
12350 Oh yeah? what city you close to?? i love kentucky. been to kentucky lake area many times. it's beautiful.
12350 I am curious where everyone is from on here,if you don't mind enlightening us. I am a southern boy, & I am from Sullivan, Missouri. Anyone else wanna reply? Thanks a bunch!

12350 In this story there is a battle happening inside of Jig (just as the unmentioned baby is) as to how much of herself is she willing to give up for the American.

That's all we do, isn't it--look at things and try new drinks? Seems to say that this whole undertaking, our entire relationship, is based on nothing but trying new drinks and looking at things. We have no real relationship beyond that. After we stop looking at things and trying new drinks what is left? Then at the ultimate moment, she says, And once they take it away, you never get it back.

this is very perceptive, stephen. yes,how much is she willing to give up? everything for him? at the end of the story is she giving up nothing, and going to keep the baby??????? i think so. she's keeping the baby, and giving him up,because as you said, they truly don't have a good enough of a relationship to stay together, especially if he is insistence she give up her unborn child. any other thoughts out there??? matt? brad??? gio???? stephen???? anybody else who's a silent member??? lol!

12350 Stephen wrote: "by moving the luggage to the "other tracks" what does that indicate? opinions???

The text says he moved the bags to the other side of the station, and there is only one train mentioned, no alterna..."

the text says exactly......"He picked up the two heavy bags and carried them around the station to the other tracks."

so, stephen it indicates another set of tracks. in europe they have a fantastic extensive train system that people there use a lot to get around. they also walk a lot. maybe that's why many europeans are not overweight. anyway, they usually have two sets of tracks with like an east bound line, and a west bound line. they don't have just one set of tracks like many american lines have that share the same tracks for both directions. if you look at the last page, almost to the end of the story, it says "other tracks",and since the woman says she's fine at the end,and he's carried the luggage to the "other tracks" doesn't that indicate they are going their separate ways?????

12350 stephen, will you keep the book, and just renew it month after month?? you know we only do a couple stories on here a month. you might wanna consider buying your own copy, dude.

just an idea..... cheerio!

12350 i am certainly intriqued in trying it. you should watch the movie some time. it's really quite interesting, and the drink is featured in it quite a bit. i've actually looked at websites about it,and you can purchase the "new formula" online.

i am prochoice too. slap rush limbaugh if you see him, will ya? what an embarrassment. i've had people from out of state ask me about him when i say i am from missouri.

yeah, i am older then you. i lived through the passing of roe vs. wade, and the trial growing up in the 70's. know all about that. did you ever watch romper room when you were a kid? one of the female hosts got fired from that tv show because she had gone to switzerland for an abortion.

even if it was much safer in europe, any surgical procedure has it's risks. i just had a colonoscopy, and you have to sign a form to be "brought back" and such . putting you under is a danger, and also any cutting of your body can cause death. it's a risk.

brad brought up an interesting point about spain being so heavily catholic, and i responded to that idea. you'll have to read it.

12350 when was the copyright of the story? might be able to do a bit of research online. yeah, but, europe still is a lot looser on moral issues then the usa. it's that puritan mentality shit. ha!

plus, there's always switzerland!

12350 hey , matt, check out the discussion on there of THE SUPPRESSED POEMS OF ERNEST HEMINGWAY. i thought you might really find that of interest.

I responded to the last post you sent about francis story, and talked about my sons high school experience.

you must be a night owl like i am, eh?

12350 yeah,i am almost completely sure papa used short choppy sentences, and my heart pounded too, with the fear of that lion attacking. personally, i really think the man is truly amazing!

i have a son who will enter college as a freshman, and the other will be a junior in high school. (i just gave him his first shaving lesson tonight. we shaved together so he could watch me. father-son bonding!!)

the oldest one went with me to the hemingway house in key west florida. i bought him a copy of THE NICK ADAMS STORIES there. i am sure he's not read it,but someday he will, and he'll appreciate hemingway too, when he's older. i am just waiting for him to ask me about it someday after he's read it. i was amazed how the boys teachers avoid a lot of classic literature due to the controversy of it all. i even made a couple suggestions to a couple of the teachers when i took a couple classes about twain, and they acted like they were all interested, and then didn't read him at all. a very famous missouri author. i was really appalled.but last year a new man in town starting teaching, and suddenly the reading list changed, and they started doing some great stuff. but too little too late. there's a lot the older one missed, and he's the big reader /author in the family. ( i think he gets it from his dad!)

anyway, guess what book the older boy will start out in one of his fall classes?? i was floored, but also think it's cool. a short story anthology by stephen king, called DIFFERENT SEASONS. i can't wait to hear what the teacher does with that. i always said that king would end up being a "classics" author some day studied in colleges. he really has some great stuff out there.

anyway,i've droned on enough.

12350 i have no idea why that went twice.

so, matt, i'm not full of shit?? ha! i mean do you think hemingway really was anal about his stories like that??? i do! i think the man was very deliberate, and really crafted his stories in ways that he certainly doesn't get nearly enough credit for. i get really irritated with people who bemoan hemingway, because they didn't like OLD MAN AND THE SEA, or one story they were forced to read in high school. he is really meant for adult audiences that are much more likely to GET HIM,and his stories, and novels. i 've often wondered if he should only be read in college, and not ever in high schools. well, i think that is a wish we are getting. i am not seeing a lot of classic literature being read in our high schools. at least, not around here.

12350 you know what it makes me think of , matt?? exasperation. being short of breath due to be annoyed, and pissed off at her husband, francis. i wonder if hemingway wrote that way to make you feel like she was sick of her rambing on husband, and the long annoying sentences gave the reader the sense of being out of breath, just like she was with her husband's annoying habits.

so ....does that make any sense????
