thanks for joining the poe group , brad! how about you, stephen? i invited you, dude. it's almost halloween , well, in less then 2 months, right???? you can read and enjoy poe anytime. hope you'll strongly consider it. invite all your family, friends, enemies, dogs, cats, to join too, boys. (black cat!, which by the way i have one. i wanted to name him RAVEN but my 4 year old and 6 year old sons got the priviledge, and he's SPARKY. and it suits him. next black cat, eh? the boys are now 19,and 17,and SPARKY is truly my other son! lol!)

i am reading P. G. Wodehouse right now. funny! i could put it aside for now tho,and hit this book. thinking mode right now!

bravo, bravo, bravo, standing ovation for brad and meredith!! *bows deeply, and kissing your royal feet*
i love this book. always have always will . papa is so underrated!

I have never read this one. Do I need to get crackin, brad????

and it would be easier for papa to say ,well,i had so many women in my life, because they were difficult, etc. his 3rd wife didn't last too long because she was so independent, andsuch, that's true. but you know,i've always wondered about this, and maybe his father had the same issues, when they both committed suicide, and dealing with depression, etc???
shoot me now???lol!!
Stephen wrote: "Very likely, but then again that hyper-masculinity." with the hyper-masculinity, was hemingway covering it up that he was a queen, as capote said???? was heminway attracted to men?it's like-----ok------ do i dare ask that question now??
i have read in papers before that hemingway went through his women, because he felt he had to have a woman in his life,to cover up his true sexual identity, and even there's been rumors that pauline might have been a lesbian. some of the pictures she sure looks masculine, and his last wife mary, kinda does too in some photos.

it is definately the favorite elements of his writing for me. the way he writes, and uses tone, and mood to set his stories, are amazing!!! the man definately makes you think exactly what he intends for you to think, and feel.
it always amazes me how so many people say he's so boring, because his writing lacks these long passages of description, etc. i find that there's a lot more there that people miss, because they aren't willing to think for themselves, or to dig a bit deeper,to catch what hemingway was definately trying to say. he uses inferences, and generalizations that you have to think about. it's not all spelled out for you. he wants you to jump to your own conclusions, and he wants you to disagree.he wants you to debate his work!!
i don't mean to sound like a snob, but it's like, if reading something doesn't slap you upside the head, and it doesn't tell you it all, where you have to read between the lines for yourself, & no thinking has to be involved, then people don't want to read it. they don't understand it,because they don't want to ,or are too lazy to try, so to cover for their lack of "getting it",it's so easy to say it's boring! you know what i mean?
this is why i almost think people shouldn't read or study hemingway till they are in college or beyond. you hear from so many high school students how horrible hemingway is, but the ones that actually read later in life, as life long readers, then read him,and they are like wow! i didn't get this before!!!! hello???????
any thoughts?

it's sorta like the good and evil, or the dr.jekyll, and mr. hyde side of hemingway, isn't it????

i think the simple movement of the luggage,is a very powerful way that hemingway used to make us think , what did she really do? is he gonna stay with her, or not?? i am thinking he isn't.what do you think, gio??
yeah, hemingway is a man of few words which he's been criticized for.... but is he really???? or is he saying so much more with his inferences of what may be be the truth in the story??? this is why i like the man so much!

Russell is on Ken Burns film on Twain, because russell is into twain. i am into twain too. he also did an intro to Thorton Wilder's book THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY. anyway, back to hemingway, eh???

is the area where you live part of the adirondacks? i need to look at a map to see where you are. i read a book recently by russell banks about that area, and really liked it. it was called THE RESERVE. have you read it? i liked it so much i bought another book by him called THE CLOUDSPLITTER. it came highly recommended. anyway, thanks for accepting me as your friend, buddy!

oh stephen, you must read A FAREWELL TO ARMS,and also THE SUN ALSO RISES. they are such better novels then ISLANDS,and also OLD MAN & THE SEA!

see,i don't see that at all. i think she's dumping him,and that's why he goes into the bar, to drink alone for a bit, cause he's pissed she's not doing what he thinks she should.
anyone else got any thoughts?

ha!

hey kevin,
i am really looking forward to hearing your perspectives about hemingway, and his stories. you'll have to catch up,and comment on what we've all said lately. i've posted quite a bit because i am a huge fan of hemingway.
request that i also be your friend? let me know.

The text says he moved the bags to the other side of the station, and there is only one train menti..."more of a response to this post, buddy? eh, stephen?
