You are correct. I did read Paper & Blood (Ink & Sigil, #2) by Kevin Hearne first, but now I am reading Peace Talks (The Dresden Files, #16) by Jim Butcher . I started it Wednesday, and I'm already halfway through. I'm hoping to finish it either later today or tomorrow morning. That will get me to my 12.

Thanks.

Thanks. Me too. I need to get new siding for my house, so it will certainly help my budget.

Alondra wrote: "Sweet beans on the raise!! Congratulations on passing, I know it was rough.."

Thanks! It was rough, but I'm really happy about it now. It's hard to describe the joy of opening that letter and finding out I had passed.

Alondra wrote: "You have COMPLETED next to 4 challenges; which is much better than I am doing. As long as you read and then enjoy what you are reading; you know that is all that matters."

You are right. I am honestly happy with how I have done, especially since my free time was seriously compromised by spending over 500 hours this year studying for my exam. All that study time was worth it, too; I got the results in the mail yesterday, and I passed! Once the paperwork goes through, I am officially licensed as an SE. It comes with a nice pay raise, too.

Awesome reading two books in one week."

It helps when you are enjoying the books. The latter book was over 500 pages, and I read it in 2 days. They aren't great literature, and they aren't the types of books I normally read, but I've loved all her books for some reason.
Dec 10, 2022 07:31AM

1176148 I finished the 2 Anne Bishop books in the last week, so now I'm at 10 completed. My plan is to read the 2 Dresden Files books before the end of the year, thus completing my 12. I'll be busy with work and other things, but it is doable.
Dec 09, 2022 03:47PM

1176148 I've only read A Wrinkle in Time, which is one of my all-time favorites from childhood. I don't even know how many times I've read it; 10 might be too low.

Happy reading!

1176148 I liked this challenge so much, I borrowed it for my list. I did tweak a couple categories, though.

Happy reading!
Dec 09, 2022 03:21PM

1176148 I have read and enjoyed A Streetcar Named Desire, Night, Candide, A Clockwork Orange, Lord of the Flies, And Then There Were None, and The Joy Luck Club. Okay, "enjoyed" might not be the right word, for some of them, but they were all well-written. You'll understand when you read them.
1176148 I read and loved the NIMH books as a child, but I don't really remember them. I should read them again some day. The only other 2023 books I've completed are Collapse: How Societies Choose to Fail or Succeed (slow, but fascinating) and The Tudors: The Complete Story of England's Most Notorious Dynasty (good book).

I did have two DNF from your list: Dead Until Dark and To the Lighthouse, but maybe you'll have better luck than me. The former was just not right for me. For the latter, I found the structure too annoying to continue. I certainly shouldn't have tried it as an audiobook.

What Alondra said. These books are amazing.

I like the mix of books on your list. Variety is always a good thing.

Instead of reading a ton of Shakespeare in one year, I've been slowly making my way through them all. A few I have read multiple times. The ones listed above are the ones I haven't gotten to yet, which are almost entirely history plays. I finished the comedies years ago.

I was planning to read The Man in the Iron Mask this year, and I never got to it. I even brought it with me when I went to Europe, but I read other books instead in my rare spare time. Oh, well.

Also; I had been thinking of Fitz and Fool for a while now, and think I should get back into that world. Thanks for the inspo.... LOL

Good luck on these challenges. I shall return."

You can't go wrong with reading more Robin Hobb :)
