I like that!We mix Spanish, English and French in this house, sometimes in the same sentence. I remember going to Torremolinos on the early morning train, and getting there about 11 AM, starving hungry. We stopped at a bar for coffee and a bite, and there was a young girl standing behind the counter where we were, washing glasses. We ordered in Spanish of course, then DH asked me something in English and I replied. Then I cracked a joke in French and he answered. Back to Spanish as we discussed plans. Finally the girl (tattoo, navel ring, lowrise pants and work boots), threw down her towel and said in Spanish, "OK, where ARE you from?"
Like my mom's friend who always said she was making "horses doovers" for her bridge club. (Hors d'oeuvres). I wonder if "slut" came from "slattern", or if "slattern" was the later, "naice" form of "slut"? There's a similar word in Yiddish: Schlampik.
If he bassed their relationship on something besides pulling the strings, maybe his guitar wouldn't have to weep!
There's something similar they used to say about sloppy housewives: "She's a slack-twisted creature." Slattern is a good word, too.
Chicago was the soundtrack of my college years. Of course I was from Iowa and in those days Chicagofest was a big thing.
Groovy wrote: "No matter how many times I've seen that movie, I never heard that phrase:)I don't know why this line from a song has been running through my mind---for years!!! It's harmonious and I like it, but..."
You crack me up. My quote is from a book. (There's a movie?)
Also, "Does Anybody Really Know What Time it Is" is by Chicago!
"The more you cry, the less you pee; and peeing is more important."Maya Angelou's grandmother, as quoted in I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
"Hey, remember that the price for the trip to the exotic animal petting zoo doesn't include a meal.""No problem, alpaca lunch."
Groovy Girl, you are freakin' incredible. You know why. I mean--you're incredible in all ways, of course, particularly personal cool. But you know what I mean.I feel like Blanche Dubois from A Streetcar Named Desire; "I have always depended on the kindness of strangers." (Without the crazy alcoholic lady part, of course. ;)
Two nights running I have remembered my dreams. This hasn't happened since I had two TIAs a few years back. Before that, for me going to sleep was like going to the movies: I had these detailed, interesting dreams and I could remember them (and still remember some dreams from 20+ years ago). Curiously, I almost never dreamed about people and places I know. Then came the dream drought. No one around me understands that I would give major body parts to get the capability of remembering my dreams back. Two nights in a row, but this time I have dreamed of people and situations that have to do with my waking life.
it's a start.
I could always email you my postal address, *tee hee*!We went to the Korean place for lunch today, and had a nice walk too. It didn't rain which was good because the skies were dark and we had no umbrella.
