I know that electronic gadgets often malfunction in my presence, whether here at home or out and about; all I have to do is step away and they behave. But yesterday I was trying to cut some squares of fabric with a rotary cutter. First the cutter fell apart in my hand...then the automatic pencil did!! The components just came apart and hit the table. What goes on here!I can't carry a Pilot retractable pen in my bag, either--when I reach in to get it I find the pieces all scattered around inside. The ink cartridge and spring even come out of the tube!
Mr B you remind me of a red T-shirt one of my brothers had in the 60s. There was a cracked Humpty Dumpty on it, with the legend: Get It Together!!
Turns out the lamb was not undercooked, just rather tough. Mine thinkit was mutton dressed as lamb. In Spanish anything with wool on is "cordero" and any thing that moos is "ternera" even if it's a full grown cow. Unless it's "toro de lidia" of course.
Maybe if I figure out how...LOLYou should have seen the conversation I had with a student who is an engineer. He helped me calculate if I had enough background fabric for another quilt I want to do, and said, "Why don't you just sew two lengths together? That'd be more than big enough."
"No," I replied, "I have to cut 12 inch squares and appliqué the flowers onto them."
Pause. You could see the wheels going round in his brain.
"Let me get this straight. You're going to take this big piece of fabric and cut it into smaller pieces."
"That's right."
"And then you're going to sew the smaller pieces together to make one big piece."
"Right."
Pause. Pause. And then a look of total disbelief.
"Why??"
It's a hobby.
I have finished the 35th and final square of my Nativity themed crazy quilt. I found fabric for borders in my stash and I think, maybe, just maybe, enough fabric to line it. Tomorrow we play checkers on the sitting-room floor to lay it up.
Oh stop it!!I curried a shoulder of lamb the other day, slow cooked on the hob. Should have started earlier though, or used a bit more heat. It took a long time and we finally ate it slightly undercooked.
From a GR review by someone I don't know: "Maybe just read that if you want something sensical because I'm going to blather from here on out."Sensical?? Really?
Something that makes sense, surely, because that made-up word sure doesn't.
I thought people who hung out here were readers. Silly me.
I posted this on the Words and Phrases Thread but I'm going to put it here too, esp. for Patti!!Alright, everyone – read this aloud
One hen
Two ducks
Three squawking geese
Four Limerick oysters
Five corpulent porpoises
Six pairs of Don Alverzo’s tweezers
Seven thousand Macedonians in full battle array
Eight brass monkeys from the ancient, sacred crypts of Egypt
Nine apathetic, sympathetic, diabetic, old men on roller skates with a marked propensity towards procrastination and sloth
Ten lyrical, spherical, diabolical denizens of the deep who haul stall around the corner of the quo of the quay of the quivery, all at the same time
(Background …According to Wikipedia this test was given “cold” (without an opportunity to warm up) to prospective radio announcers to demonstrate their speaking ability at Radio Central New York in the early 1940s.)
I have no idea if that is true but I love it anyway.
Here I sit with a cup of chamomile tea. This must be our china anniversary, DH pushed the boat out on the Christmas pressies and got me two (count em, two) Royal Worcester cups and one Port Merion plate. I finally asked him if there was something he wanted to share with the class--at his age (73), I worry! The plate is on show, not to be used for eating because knowing me I'd drop it. Never had the chance to be up close and personal with quality porcelain before. You can feel the difference in the glaze as well as the hand.
I just made a new Korean dish, Black Bean Noodles. Looks delicious. I picked it up off a K-Drama (yeah I know, how sad am I?) and looked it up on Youtube. There's a young couple in Seoul, the husband was raised in the US and went home for his military service, met Katy and stayed. They post recipes that are easy to do and very, very good!Off to cook the noodles.
I just posted the 2019 Idle Chat Thread, since it appears that parts of GR will be down over New Years for maintenance. You can either post here until the 31st or take it to the new thread. Makes no never-mind to me.
OK, so since GR will be doing maintenance during 31st Dec and 1st Jan (depending on where they are, and where you are in the world, I suppose) this is the official opening of the New and Improved, All-Singing, All-Dancing Idle Chat Thread for 2019!Grab a cup of something, put your feet up and get idling!!
