Then I read about days in Alaska during the summer solstice and thought, woah, how crazy would it be living without nights. How would we adapt?

However, I thought. What if it my planet was more like a 'magnetic floating globe' caught between two equal gravitational pulls. It could be far enough away that its own gravity allowed for satellites but far enough away that the stars cause it to spin like a top rather than orbit.

An hour five times a day where violence seems to escalate. Both the demand for violence and the need for protection have fueled the creation of guild houses called Gardens. Three main Gardens govern the regions of the world, each by a council of powerful magicians.
The Gardens are elaborate capital cities ruling by tyranny disguised as world hubs of trade, wealth and fortunes to be made. Within the Gardens are sheds. Each shed is responsible for recruiting, training, and filtering out the soil of the Garden. Its intention is to separate the weeds from the flowers while growing each flower to possibly assist ruling the garden.
Our three heroes are Zalazak, Ubika and Sukca are excited to be recruited by their local shed. Having escaped the foster care system they have been busy washing dishes and scrubbing floors of their local shed working for table scraps. Now that all three are eighteen they can join as recruits together.
Sunka wishes to become the most famous magician in the world. Ubika wishes to be wealthy and Zalazak wishes to marry Ubika. Together they vow to stay close and become something other than kids eating off of other peoples plates.

When you get a chance can you create a new topic under Coursera Reviews using the title of your book as the subject. I've got some time I'll hop over and read your first chapter now.

Actually my first book was like that. The organization was none if any at best. If I went back and rewrote it, it would be such a stronger book but I decided to leave it alone. The main character is very immature and I feel like the writing reflects that.
It was coursera that first introduced me to the 1500 word count for a chapter. This was influential to me because my beta readers really applauded small chapters. They wanted to know that a bad scene wouldn't last long but if the story was getting good, they wouldn't get stuck by reading 'just one more chapter.'
When I am targeting a YA novel I now shoot for the coursera 1500 and when I am doing an epic I make each chapter 2,500 to 3k words.
Are you setting your chapters based upon word counts? Oh, those live forever scenes... try to set it up so that it starts on its own chapter. Then you can dedicate that entire chapter to the one scene.

Perhaps you can copy all and paste it into another program if the pdf save doesn't work. Google docs or word.

Let me know if I can be of any further help.
