1035419 I would love to but next month in Nonfiction November and I'm not sure I can keep up with my TBR as it is ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ If you're reading it in December or January I'm definitely in since I'm already considering rereading it sometime during those two months anyways ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

1035419 1. Loved that we got a lot of Miss Marple in this one. I got the culprit right early on (though I can't remember which moment precisely fixed my suspicions on him) but still it was such a fun read and quite intense towards the end. The 1987 adaptation is great you guys should check it out

2. I've gotten bad vibes off of some people in the past but I don't remember any specific incident where I got a feeling of deja vu

3. I think I would've it's my dream to leave in the English country/seaside but I haven't actually experienced what Gwenda had so I'm not entirely sure :P
1035419 Looking forward :D

For November I'd love if we pick Rebecca or We Have Always Lived in the Castle. I've been meaning to read the latter for ages and the former is definitely due a reread for me but I feel I need the extra push provided by a book club for those whereas And Then There Were None is one of my favourite books of all time and so easy to read and reread a million times over ๐Ÿ˜‚
For December I'm voting for An English Murder. I'd totally join in for a Louisa May Alcott if you end up picking that one though
1035419 So excited for this!

Glad to hear you liked The Moonstone! Now I can go into assured of a good reading experience! Which of his books should we choose as our first pick?

Sherlock Holmes would fit perfectly with Katie's Challenge : Read a Victorian book that equates to your favourite modern genre

1035419 I'm all in for a Wilkie Collins! He's been on my TBR for soooo long and each Victober I end up not picking any of his books because they're quite long, so this will be the perfect excuse for me to finally read something by him :D
Also on board with Daphne Du Maurier, I'd like to read more by her and Rebecca is definitely overdue a reread for me.
Will have to check out the other authors on the list but thank you so much Shannon for taking the time to put this list together!

1035419 The Hound of the Baskervilles for October because it fits in perfectly with Victober and Katie's challenge!
As to alternating between Agatha Christie and other classics, how about exploring other golden age mystery writers? Lil's Vintage World, who's a massive Christie fan, often talks about Patricia Wentworth's Miss Silver books on her channel so those have been on my radar for a while. What do you think?

1035419 I'm fine with both suggestions

Hi guys! Sorry for being MIA for the last couple or so months, it's been hell at work. I'm so glad to be back, I've really missed our little book club! Hope everyone's doing well :D

Anyways, back to this month's read:

1- Not really, I did slightly suspect her but thought the solution would be **SPOILER FOR JULY'S BOOK(view spoiler). Plus I couldn't think of a plausible motive since the whole Charlotte thing never crossed my mind (though I did sense that the pearls were meant to cover something on her neck). Funny how I got worked up about other tiny details (like Mitzi's studying to be a financier or the other announcement in the Gazette which mentioned a Friday appointment...etc) but glossed over the Letty/Lotty thing as some annoying oversight (I blame my period cramps for my scattered brain cells ๐Ÿ˜‚)
2- This is only my second Miss Marple so I don't have much to compare it with. I liked that she was more involved in this than in The Moving Finger in which she barely appeared, but I agree with Georgie in that I'd still like to see more of her. Hopefully the other Marple books remedy that
3- I watched the three part 1985 adaptation today and really liked it. It's a very faithful adaptation. I think the only noticeable difference is the omission of the Dora Bunner illusion at the end
4- I really liked Miss Hinch and wouldn't mind seeing more of her! Also Mitzi can be really funny ๐Ÿ˜‚

Excited for September's read as I'd love to read more Miss Marple! And definitely on board with The Turn of The Screw buddy read!

I really loved it!! Even though I knew it was Josephine (The whole "murderer likes to brag and play detective" clue gave it away since she was the only one doing that, but I became 1000% sure when Charles noticed the broken chair after Josephine's first staged murder attempt) reading that single line Today I killed grandfather still gave me the chills. I think the ending she got was the only one Agatha could kill her (though I felt really sorry for Edith), because otherwise it'd have been Juvenile prison or god knows what worse, and like Charles, I had become kinda fond of her

I finished the book so personally I have no problem, but I think we should wait just a day or two to really make sure that everyone is on board with this since we don't want anyone to be accidentally spoiled

I finished it a couple of days ago and I really enjoyed this nostalgic trip down memory lane! (I first read the book in late 2008 so it's been almost 12 years)

1035419 1- My first thought was "Poor Charles if he's really going to marry into THAT" xD

2- I haven't given it much thought to be honest, quite a regular pattern in books of the mid 20th century so *shrugs*, plus I was too fixated on the mystery itself to bother with other things :P

3- I had guessed the murderer right, though like Shannon, the reveal still shocked me. At first I wasn't completely sure, and my mind formed a couple other theories but an observation drew me back to my original suspect and a tiny clue later 100% confirmed it to me

Exactly!! It's exactly like they did in the latest Orient Express movie with that melodramatic chase midway through. I really cannot fathom their obsession with adding unnecessary stunts and "action" sequences when the story has got enough thrill and suspense on its own!
May 15, 2020 05:16AM

1035419 Btw has anyone seen the movie trailer? I just did and it looks like they've butchered the plot and added too much unnecessary melodrama (as they usually do (ยฌ_ยฌ) )
May 15, 2020 05:01AM

1035419 I read the bulk of it today and YOU GUYS I CANNOT WAIT TO DISCUSS IT!!!
What I love about Agatha's books is that they're not just clever and thrilling mysteries but they have great and memorable characters as well
