This group has moved to the review phase. Please read the starting post to this topic for guidelines and schedule. Once you have received a book for review, please post to this topic. Also, when you have posted your reviews, please post the web addresses of the Goodread and Amazon reviews.
R.

Okay. It seems that we should go to reviewing now. I will publish the order of review and schedule later today.
R.

We have not had another sign up for a while. If there is no objection, I will start the review process with five authors by the end of this week.
R.

This group's primary purpose is honest peer reviews by genre. We cannot be honest with each other, if we are subjected to retaliation in any form. Therefore, any group participant that either posts a revenge rating or has a revenge rating posted for them by a proxy, will be removed from the Genre Specific Review Groups.
Key signs of a revenge rating are (but are not limited to):
1) Rating is published after the original review was published on Goodreads
2) Rating is not accompanied by a cogent text review
3) Rating is made by the author of the work originally reviewed, by a Goodreads friend of that author, or any form of proxy
4) Rating is 3 or lower
If a rating meets all or most of these criterions, and a moderator considers that it qualifies as a revenge rating, the member will be contacted to allow him or her to have the rating retracted or to make a case that it was not a revenge rating.
If you have participated in a peer review group and feel that you received a revenge rating, please contact the moderator for that group. The moderator will investigate.
Since this can be a very subjective issue, moderators will not treat an incident lightly or precipitously.

We now have six participants. The review schedule has been posted in the initial comment in this topic. Please make arrangements to obtain review copies of the books you are to review and post a comment to this topic when you have received it and when you have completed the review.
R.

Just a reminder that the due date for all reviews to be completed is a week away. If you are going to be late, please post a comment to this topic or contact me and the author to let us know how it is going.
R.

We now have five participants. We can go with five or wait for one more. Let me know what you think by posting comments here. If there are no objections, I will start the review process next week whether we have another participant or not.

This is Contemporary Fiction Review Group 1, which includes any work dealing with issues, problems, or perspectives set in our times and our world. (No Science Fiction or Fantasy, please.) As with other review groups, you will be expected to read and give an honest review of the books assigned to you. Assignments will be made after the group sign-up has filled.
Participants are expected to post reviews to Goodreads. If the review is positive (three stars or higher on Amazon), the review should be posted to Amazon (US and UK) as well, if the book is available there. This makes having accounts with both Goodreads and Amazon.com a requirement.
If a reviewer and the author agree that the review should not be posted to Goodreads due to quality issues, the reviewer is relieved of the requirement of posting the review. If this occurs in the first round, the second reviewer is relieved of the requirement to read and review the book. This is entirely at the discretion of the reviewer and is not intended in any way to manipulate the rating of any book.
Contact the authors you are scheduled to review to arrange to receive a review copy of their work.
Please post to this topic, both when you receive review copies and when you post the reviews.
If you are going to be late with your review, either post to this topic as soon as possible or message the author and the moderator.
If your book has not been reviewed by the deadline for either round, contact the review group moderator. This is necessary to make certain that the review process is fair for everyone.

I wrote to Jon about this. This may be because it is a pre-order. I don't know. Anyway, let's let him work that out with Amazon.
R.

If a book is not on Amazon, then posting the review to Goodreads is all you can do.
The links for all of the books being reviewed are included in the initial post to this topic. Go to https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... to post the review to the latest edition.

Because of the low rating in this review, it will not be published on Amazon.

I think we have a workable schedule now. Check the first post to this topic to see if you agree. Let me know about any problems as soon as possible. I apologize for all the confusion. Here's hoping that things go smoothly from here on out.
R.

I have regenerated the schedule. The starts have been moved forward to give the participants a chance to review the schedule for any other conflicts.
R."
You're..."
I was just appointed to the board of directors of the aspirin company for being one of their major investors.
All kidding aside, I just want these groups to be a positive experience for the participants. If I have to regenerate the schedule a few times, I'm okay with that.
