100482 In joining this review group you have agreed to review the novels assigned to you on a two month schedule.

This is Romance Review Group 2, which will include all works classified as romances (No erotica, Please). As with other review groups, you will be expected to read and give an honest review of the books assigned to you. Assignments will be made after the group sign-up has filled.

Participants are expected to post reviews to Goodreads. If the review is positive (three stars or higher on Amazon), the review should be posted to Amazon (US and UK) as well, if the book is available there. This makes having accounts with both Goodreads and Amazon.com a requirement.

If a reviewer and the author agree that the review should not be posted to Goodreads due to quality issues, the reviewer is relieved of the requirement of posting the review. If this occurs in the first round, the second reviewer is relieved of the requirement to read and review the book. This is entirely at the discretion of the reviewer and is not intended in any way to manipulate the rating of any book.

Contact the authors you are scheduled to review to arrange to receive a review copy of their work.

Please post to this topic, both when you receive review copies and when you post the reviews.

If you are going to be late with your review, either post to this topic as soon as possible or message the author and the moderator.

If your book has not been reviewed by the deadline for either round, contact the review group moderator. This is necessary to make certain that the review process is fair for everyone.

100482 Authors:

I have received a message from Mary Huckstep. Unfortunately, personal issues have arisen that will prevent her from completing her assignments here. Even though these circumstances were not under her control, she has apologized. If anyone in the group would like to do a read and review in her place, that would be fine. I see that Ibiloye has offered and Alastair has accepted his offer. We try not to schedule authors reviewing each others books, but sometimes it is unavoidable. So, we hope to see a review of Alastair's book by Ibiloye in the second round.

Newbie here, but I got a note saying you needed another author for the review group. I would love to participate, but cannot quite tell from the thread above how to sign up or where, ..."

Stephanie:

You volunteer for a review group by posting your name and the name of your book to the topic. Unfortunately, this group already has six and is moving on to the review phase. (After someone had to drop out, another author volunteered less than four hours later.) The good news is that Science Fiction is a popular genre, and it is likely that another review group will be formed before too long. Look out for the group-wide message announcing its start and then sign up.

N.J.:

Thank you. We understand that there can be unavoidable delays. As long as the authors are notified of any delays (as you did in your latest comment) and the reviews are eventually posted, there is no problem.

100482 Anything about you or your book should be posted in the About the Author folder. The only posts to topics in the Genre Review Groups folder should be about volunteering a work during the sign up phase or relative to the review process during the review phase. Posts that do not fall into these two categories (for example offers to review books) can be posted to the Discussion folder.

Any comment posted to the wrong folder may be moved to the right folder by a moderator.

100482 If you join a review group and the review of your book is late, please, please, please contact the group's moderator. There are unscrupulous people who sign up for review groups with no intention of following through on their commitment to the group. Also, sometimes there are unavoidable delays that make a review late. The sooner these situations are identified and dealt with, the better it will be for everyone. If you are willing to contribute your time and effort to review other authors' books, you should receive fair treatment and have your work reviewed. The moderators are here to try and make that happen, but they need your help in following up on late reviews.
Jan 13, 2016 03:00PM

100482 Peer review groups require that authors contact each other to provide review copies. Many people do not want to post their email addresses on a public forum.

To privately message another Goodreads member:

1) Go to the member's Goodreads page.

2) There may be a button or link to send a message.

3) If there is no message link, there should be a gray down arrow next to the Follow Author button. Click on the arrow. There may be a send message link in the pull down menu.

4) If both 2 and 3 do not work, it is likely that the person has both an author and a regular Goodreads page. In this case, go to the peer review group topic and look for the post where the author signed up for the review group. Click on the member name. This should take you to the regular Goodreads page where you can contact the author as in step 2 or 3.
Jan 13, 2016 02:49PM

100482 Peer review groups are established in this Goodreads group to provide authors with fair reviews of their work. Most groups schedule two reviews for each participant's work. The moderators understand that outside world commitments can make it difficult for participants to complete their reviews on schedule.

Reviewers who are going to be late are expected to either post to the peer review group topic or to contact the author and/or the moderator to let them know about the delay.

If a reviewer fails to complete a review without contacting the author and/or moderator, he or she may be excluded from future peer review groups at the moderator's discretion.

If a reviewer fails to complete both reviews in a peer review group, the reviewer will be contacted for an explanation. If the reviewer fails to respond or the response is insufficient, his or her membership in the Genre Specific Review Groups may be terminated at the moderator's discretion. In addition, any reviews received by the offending participant through the peer review group may be removed so that this practice that is unfair to other participants is not be encouraged.

This rule is in place to assure that everyone receives fair treatment and are not taken advantage of by unscrupulous people who want reviews for their own work but are not willing to put in the effort to reciprocate.

We are just going to have to live with it. With only five authors in the group, there is no way to arrange the schedule so that one author does not review and is not reviewed by another. Plus the fact that G.J. Griffiths' book in this group is a different book. We have had authors who have reviewed each other's works in different groups, and I do not remember a problem with Amazon. We will just have to see how it works out.
