YOU: Oh - those are nice. What are they?
ME: The paperback ARCs for King of Code.
YOU: Who gets them?
ME: About 100 bloggers and bunch of readers who win giveaways.
YOU: I'm a blogger! Will I get one?
ME: Dude, I am not choosing who gets them. I love you all too much. That's why I hire a PR company.
YOU: When are they going out?
ME: Aug 15th.
YOU: If I don't get one will I get an eARC? When?
ME: Maybe? And I don't know? September, I think?
YOU: Does the book below that say "Alternate Ending?"(What the god damn holy hell is on this woman's mind?)
ME: Yeah.........
(breaks fourth wall)
When I printed these I wasn't sure which way I wanted to go with Queen of Rust. I wrote two endings, each meant to lead into the two concepts I had for it.
I'm giving paperback ARC readers both because it's fun.
And I'm not telling you which one I've decided on just yet :)

100271 WHAT IS THIS?

image:

I learned so much about hacking culture as I was working on King of Code. More than I could ever use in the book.
One thing was l337 5p34k (leet speak - short for ELITE - meaning "I'm in the know and you aren't") If you've ever played the license plate game on long trips where you turn the letter strings into words, you've probably come across the necessity of turning a 4 into an A etc etc.

I'd LOVE to turn all your names into l337!
If you give me the name you'd like coded, I (and/or my assistant Cameron Kelly) will make you a profile pic!

DO THIS: Post the exact spelling of the name you want us to code in the comments.
AND: Wait. We will make you the jpg and post it as a response.
THEN: Download it.
HERE: Put it up in your profile if you like.
SO: Now everyone thinks you're the shit and they will run to change their passwords.
Also really easy -- You can make it temporary and choose the date it flips back to normal.
100271 Hey Canaries!

I usually read the picks of the month before the book is announced, but our August read is something I'm actually planning on reading next.

Everything I've heard about it makes me think it's something you guys will love. So I'm going with my gut here.

Yara Phillips is a wandering muse.
She dates men who need her, but always moves on to something new, never staying in one place for very long.
David Lisey is in need of a muse.
A talented musician lacking lyrical inspiration. When he first sees her, he knows he's found what he's been looking for.
Yara believes she can give David exactly what he needs to reach his full potential:
A broken heart.
David’s religion is love.
Yara’s religion is heartache.
Neither is willing to surrender, but religion always requires sacrifice.

100271 I made a new King of Code teaser. I'm playing with what they should look like....
I'll throw this up on my status too and see if it looks good :)

I want your thoughts though I may not be in to check for them until the edit is done.

I have to edit today.
I don't have any time for marketing or any shit.

Here. This is all the marketing I'm doing....

From New York Times Bestselling author, CD Reiss, an all new, sexy tale of secrets, intrigue, betrayal, and a love worth crossing a continent for.

Taylor Harden is a man on the edge.
The edge of fame. The edge of untold wealth.
The edge of utter humiliation.

He built an unhackable system, and in front of everyone, it’s hacked.
His reputation goes from king to goat in a split second. Boom. Like that.

Some dude in Barrington, USA (AKA Nowhere) has locked down Taylor’s code, and if he doesn’t get it back, he’s going to be wearing a monkey suit for the rest of his life.

Except, this guy? This hacker from Nowhere? He’s not a guy.

Harper Watson’s all woman. And she has a plan for Taylor, his code, and his body.
------
King of Code is a standalone.
The cover with the tree is TEMPORARY :)

100271 I am SO GLAD you all loved it!
I was nervous because there wasn't the same heat level as usual, but it's such an out there, weird book I had a feeling it would go over well!

100271 This book is FUCK WOW HOT.
Jun 22, 2017 02:29PM

100271 Thanks everyone.
There's already a Royals series and a Hacker Series.

I think I'm going with Hacker Kings because what Susan said rings true. It's not really about SV as much as it's about hacking, except in the case of Everett Fitzgerald, who is a boy scout and might have to do a little hacking in the end.

Kings of the Hack isn't bad, TBH.
I'm leaving it without a series title until I accept one or the other or inspiration strikes.

Keep the suggestions coming, if you have them.

100271 KING OF CODE.
It's not a duet any more.
Ladies and Gents, I love duets. I love that they're like series without the commitment. I love their length and the cliffhanger in the middle. Love it all!
I'd planned it out perfectly, added a ton of shit that could go wrong and had great ideas for Queen of Rust.
But in the course of writing, the characters kind of arrived, emotionally, to where they needed to be at the end of the book, and Queen of Rust started to look like a bunch of stupid plot.
I love me some plot. Angela Marshall Smith can tell you all about that. But I also love stripping it away and getting to the core of the character.
So, to my financial detriment, I'm making King of Code a standalone.
What's happening to Queen of Rust.
It's still an awesome title, and I broke a story with Jenn Watson that fits it perfectly. So it's going to be a related standalone. Different couple. Same world. And King of Code is going to flow right the fuck into it like it's lubed.
It's going to start a group of standalones called the "Kings of Silicon Valley" (so far - subject to change to The Hacker Kings, if I decide last minute)
Which do you like better?
Kings of Silicon Valley
The Hacker Kings
(I reserve the right to do what I want anyway, but would love your thoughts)
OK, gotta go.

100271 Are you ready for Summer?!
The kids are out of school, the days are long and hot, and you can spill red wine on your white shoes.

It's time for my pick for June, 2017.

So, you may or may not know this.
You may or may not like it.
But, it's a fact.

I don't read a lot of romance.

I have my reasons, but NONE of them are any lack of great writing or great stories in the genre. I just enjoy having the genre I write be uncomfortable for me. I don't want to take my stories for granted.

For instance, if I'm writing at two-thirds through and I know exactly what happens in all OTHER romances at two-thirds through, I'm going to phone it in.
I'd much rather suffer with getting stuck and working it out.
Go figure.

Anyway, this brings me to the point of this post. I don't read a lot of romance, but I picked up Dating-ish by Penelope Reid.

Dating-ish Dating-ish (Knitting in the City, #6) by Penny Reid

I started it and It's outside the box and hella fun. There's a mysterious element that's not dark, but definitely weird in a good way.

So, basically, if you're looking for a romance to read, you should make it this book. I am not fucking with you.

100271 Dirty.
Filthy.
Rich.

When I met Donovan Kincaid, I knew he was rich. I didn't know he was filthy. Truth be told, I was only trying to get his best friend to notice me.

I knew poor scholarship girls like me didn't stand a chance against guys like Weston King and Donovan Kincaid, but I was in love with his world, their world, of parties and sex and power. I knew what I wanted--I knew who I wanted--until one night, their world tried to bite me back and Donovan saved me. He saved me, and then Weston finally noticed me, and I finally learned what it was to be in their world.

And then what it was like to lose it.

Ten years later, I've found my way back. Back to their world. Back to him.

This time, I'm ready. I've been down this road before, and I know all the dirty, filthy ways Donovan will try and wreck me.

But it's hard to resist. Especially when I know how much I'll like it.
100271 Usually, I'd have this up earlier but Laurelin released this as a surprise and I wasn't supposed to tell you.

I read a beta draft.

HOLY HOT SMOKES.

It's so dirty. So depraved. So emotional and gut-punching.

And it's FREE as a dirty filthy rich bird.

When I met Donovan Kincaid, I knew he was rich. I didn't know he was filthy. Truth be told, I was only trying to get his best friend to notice me.

Because when dirty, filthy, rich boys play, they play for keeps.

Not the same person.

My deal with 1,001 Nights was for a novella.
Insolent needs more than a novella, so I'm hanging on to him for his own duet when I'm ready.
Feb 21, 2017 10:15AM

100271 I read through the first three pages.

YOU GUYS ARE SO SMART!
You don't expect things to be easy and Lil your questions are so spot on and deep. I think Dana answered them but I am just so melting over your intellectual tenacity right now.

I DO want to answer a couple of things.

1) INSOLENT - Adam's secret about Insolent was that he scared him and made him realize Diana could fall for another Dom. And yes, the confusion because he didn't want to be her Dom, yet he did, yet he couldn't, yet the thought of someone else being that to him drove him so insane he just blanket said "NO CELLAR" over and over.

Also - Insolent is getting his own duet some time when I'm ready to write another BDSM book. I don't want to be a BDSM author. I need to spread my wings, so I won't write it until it's exploding out of me.

2) CHRIS THE YOUNG DOM
He's getting a novella through 1,001 Dark Nights.

100271 Thank you for buddying this! I loved all your comments and (as always) the honestly and intelligence of this group blows me away.

Yeah, Trey was tough, and the lifestyle would have been a dealbreaker for Kate too. But it was character growth that she could trust him. That was how I read it.

But to each his own. Alessandra definitely took a risk in giving him that kink and another risk in having him fall in love with a woman who wasn't into it.

Alessandra is definitely an outside the box kind of writer and that's why I love her. I'm never halfway through one of her books knowing how it's going to play out.

I cannot wait until you can get to March's buddy read!
Except, I can't exactly tell you what it is yet - so STAY TUNED!

100271 It's that time again!
My pick of the month.
I was in such a book funk. Everything sucked. I wanted to hurt myself and others. I even resorted to reading the NEWS.

Then Alessandra asked me to read her book to make sure there were no "fashion klunkers." Which means - basically - when a book is set in the fashion world and the writer puts in something so egregiously stupid (like going into production from a pattern or making a fitting glamorous) I want to throw something.

Guess what, not only did we work on the klunkers (not many) this book got me out of my funk.

It's very real, and the way Alessandra writes is so vibrant it's addictive. Thank god for her. I really love the way she thinks. Trey is scorching hot, and their friendship is very poignant and real.

Read starts Feb 2nd - I hope you love this book as much as I did.
