[close] This group was created with the intention of connecting with other primary/ preschool teachers ❤️ Or, parents who enjoy reading to their children. Reading to my students is so important to me, not only for building foundational skills, but also to simply create a lifelong love for reading. Please share some classroom favorites!

[close] Research shows that reading aloud single most important factor in achieving school success! Cocky's Reading Express™ is a collaboration of the University of South Carolina Student Government and the University's School of Library and Information Science. USC students travel the state with their friend, Cocky, visiting elementary schools across South Carolina. The students read to the children, and Cocky helps the children understand the importance of life-long reading. The program primarily serves students in 4K through third grade because research shows that if children acquire strong reading skills and a love of reading by the end of third grade they are more likely to succeed academically and graduate on time. All the children are given books to take home, reminders of their visit from Cocky and the USC students. The USC students know they are making reading fun - one Gamecock at a time. The Cocky’s Reading Express Best Read-Aloud Books will be chosen by a select group of 6 members who will convene 4 times during the year to discuss the year’s best read aloud book. Meetings will be held both virtually through Good Reads and in person at the SC Center for Children’s Books and Literacy. The Committee will be composed of the following members: 1 School media specialist 1Public librarian 2 Professors 1Childcare Center employee 1 SLIS student

[close] A group for sharing reviews and recommendations that are pure, quality books for families and children that carry moral and literary value. Things I PERSONALLY look for in books: - Solid family relationships that show respect and support of one another. - No bratty behavior of characters - No crude or potty humor or words. - No name calling between characters - Christian belief that the Bible is the truth and word of God. - Relatable and real character feelings and emotions. - Friendships that show trust and confidence in one another.
