Buttons & Figs podcasts are evolving and we’ve discovered that nonsense literature was the doorway we used when working with kids, but once on the other side, kids were inspired to play with language. word play and nonsense help kids make sense of the world by allowing them the freedom to play with meaning, sounds and ideas. making sense sometimes requires stepping away, taking a rest, playing, or laughing a bit. by listening, reading, and thinking about the sounds and images words create in the mind, the brain has a way of potentially finding new pathways to approach problems and solve solutions….wait, reverse that. each episode will feature great book recommendations, kid recordings of nonsense, and a recording challenge, which sometimes includes a fun downloadable activity designed to inspire YOU to play with words – at home, in the car, at school, or wherever you are. thanks for listening to me and you and you and me. we hope our word play activities will inspire you to make a little nonsense, record a little nonsense, explore a little nonsense share a little nonsense

[close] Let's say some how you slipped and fell back into your childhood. You are given the choice to grow-up and be an author. Who'd it be . . . and perhaps toss in a 'why' for the group to ponder.

[close] A group that for readers and writers where passionate ranting is not only allowed but encouraged. If you read a book that made you want castrate yourself because bringing a child into a world sullied by the mere presence of that waste of perfectly good toilet paper is too cruel a world. Or If you read a book that made you want to do a pound of cocaine and fight grizzly bears....then this is the place to talk about it in full.
