[close] This group is for all educators actively attempting to be anti-racists in and out of the classroom. It is for all educators attempting to decenter whiteness in classrooms. It is for all educators that value celebrating varying culture and identity! It is for the social studies teachers that teach #hardhistory. It is for the ELA teachers that value #ownvoices novels. In short, it is for all of us seeking to be better advocates, disruptors, and anti-racists.

[close] Fixing systemic racism starts with educating ourselves, and it is our responsibility to do so. This group is an effort to read and discuss uncomfortable and difficult topics to better understand what our BIPOC friends, colleagues, neighbors, etc. face each and every day so that we as a society can truly become anti-racist. In this group, we will read a number of books, articles, etc. and discuss the parts that make us uncomfortable, questions we are afraid to ask, and more.

[close] This group is intended to be a forum for discussion, not debate, of ideas and books on racism with the objective of improving our individual understanding of how to be better antiracists. The assumption if you are in this group is that you have made a personal commitment to explore how you can individually become a better antiracist. Members should be interested in increasing their knowledge of different perspectives to increase our personal sensitivity, understanding and growth as allies, or “co-conspirators” with the black community. It’s important to remember that “racist” isn’t a term to apply to people, it’s a term that applies to policies and actions. Likewise, “antiracist” isn’t a static identity label either. It is a term that applies to policies and actions that seek to eliminate and dismantle racism wherever it is found. We are seeking to be self-reflective and advocate for antiracism as a perpetual process.
