Eragon Shadeslayer is the son of Brom and Selena, and bonded to Saphira, the only known female dragon in Alagaesia. He and Saphira make the choice to serve the Varden when it is clear that it is either that or the dark king Galbatorix. They are the last free dragon and Rider. Eragon is trained by Garrow, Brom, Oromis, and Glaedr and develops into a skilled swordsman and magician. He was born a human but he was physically transformed, acquiring the features and abilities of an elf.
