Nasuada was the daughter of Ajihad, who was the leader of the rebel faction, the Varden. Later when her father dies in an attack from The Empire, she is chosen to lead the Varden, proving herself as capable and bold a leader as her late father. Both her and her father had ebony skin. She became a close friend of Eragon and Saphira, as well as liegelord when Eragon pledged fealty to her as her first vassal.
