Did You Notice Something a Little Different?
UPDATE: Thanks for all the feedback! For those of you who were having issues with blurriness, we have good news: we pushed out an update this afternoon that improves the sharpness of the font for users who were affected. We’re monitoring all the comments and will keep you posted on any further updates.
If you’re a frequent visitor to Goodreads, you've probably noticed a few tweaks we’ve made to the fonts and colors on the desktop site today. Our goal with these small-but-important changes was to consolidate and refresh our visual styles and lay the groundwork for some design improvements that we’re planning in the future.
What’s different?
To enhance the readability of text on Goodreads, we’ve adopted two new open-source fonts. Lato, our sans-serif font, was designed by Warsaw-based designer Łukasz Dziedzic (“Lato” means “Summer” in Polish). Merriweather, our serif font, was created by Eben Sorkin and was designed to be pleasant to read on screens.
To make it easier to scan the page for information you need, we’ve touched up and modernized the design of common page layout elements like section headers, tabs and links.
To simplify and modernize our visual design, we’ve reduced the number of link colors we use, removed gradients from buttons and the site navigation, and applied a more harmonious color palette to interactive elements such as buttons, stars, and links.

I know this is probably useless, since I don't think any feedback about the aesthetic of this site has ever been heeded, but please change it back. Or at least make it possible for us to opt in or out of this.

As this is an update for overall consistency on the site, we won't be offering different types of font styles for members to use.

Thank you for the screenshot! Are you at 100% zoom on your browser in that image?
Yep.
No, overall, the colors and ..."
This is not the only thing that our designers are working on! Stay tuned.

We'll check on this! Thanks for reporting.

Hey Nici - can you send us a screenshot at support at goodreads dot com, along with the information on what browser you're using?

Font is TERRIBLE. Shows up kind of blurry-ish, with the letters broken up. Hurts my eyes :(
I have to massively zoom in just to see all the letters properly...
(using Firefox on desktop & laptop)

And to be honest, if blue will be turn to dark one it'll be better, I think.
Now it's kinda bleh, but still loving it.

Can I have the old design back??

Then I suppose I'll have to leave the site. This is really horrible, but I can't use it in IE or Firefox or Google Chrome.

This seems like some issue with FF cuz in Chrome it's fine, and it's the second time someone mentioned FF and missing letters.

Hey Nikki - would it be possible for you to send us a screenshot at support at goodreads dot com and include which browser you're using? Pieces of letters definitely shouldn't be missing.

The only thing I'm not sure about, is that it seems smaller. I seem to be zooming in a lot more on my macbook to read each page.

: P
It's like there's no consistency to the width of the lines on the letters...

The buttons ok, the links ok, but the font was perfect the way it was. This one the "f" has a barely legible crossbar (among other faults).
Please at least return the font to the way it was. It makes me want to spend LESS time on the site and not more, because I'm not the only one it's causing eyestrain for and I read constantly on and off the computer without these issues. Five minutes on the "improved" site and my eyes/head are hurting.

Also it is harder for my brain to adjust between the different fonts and colors than before, so it takes longer to read/process everything. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to what font/color/size is used where. It's very messy, like font soup.

I can't believe you think this font is better!

I don't mind, actually maybe like, the color changes that you've made. They are soothing and I like the colors, but this font is horrible.

I'll miss everything that was green, though, because green is good!

But even worse are the bold words that just look distorted!
I have checked it out on my 2 usual devices: Chrome with Windows, and Chrome and Safari in my iPad. I'll check it out in Mac later but this is atrocious. I almost feel like I have to squint!
