YA: Lloyd Alexander's Prydain books (Disney's The Black Cauldron did not get it right!)Fantasy/contemporary satire: Terry Pratchett
Romance/suspense: J.D. Robb (Eve Dallas)
Mystery: Sue Grafton (Kinsey Millhone)-I second (third? fourth?) the above
Favorite series:Outlander*****
Harry Potter*****
Harry Dresden & Codex Alera by Jim Butcher*****
In Death (Eve & Rourke)*****
Merry Gentry
JA Jance's Sheriff Brady & JP Beaumont series
Ok some of these are personal preferences but how did the starred series NOT make the list?!?!
Micajean wrote: "I don't think I have an all time favorite but currently it's Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas"I'm currently reading the first book and I really like it so far.. Someone on Reddit recommended it to me because I liked Victoria Aveyard's Red Queen.
My favorite series:Shannon Hale's The Books of Bayern (start with
)Ally Condie's Matched Series (start with
)Jenny Han's Summer Trilogy (start with
), I guess I'll add her
series too.Harry Potter series, of course!
I've only read the first two but I like Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series too (start with
)The mentioned Millenium Trilogy series is amazing, of course! (Start with
).. I discovered from my library that an author wrote a sequel to the third book of the Trilogy called The Girl in the Spider's Web, but honestly, I'm not too interested, unless someone I personally know recommends it to me later on.
Scherry wrote: "Body Mover series by Stephanie Bond, Laura Caxton series by David Wellington, Barbara Holloway series by Kate Wilhelm, Border trilogy by Cormac McCarthy, Takeshi Kovacs series by Richard K. Morgan,..."Copy, paste, print
I'm crazy about series! Cj. Box - Joe PIckett Series
William Kent Kruegger - Cork O'Conner series
James Lee Burke - Dave Reabeacheaux (not even close to correct spelling)
Stephen Hunter- Bob Lee Swagger Series - All Swagger series for that matter
John Sandford - Lucas Davenport + Virgil Flower Series
Craig Johnson - Walt Longmier Series (never watched the show)
Ya-
Benny Imura zombie series
AVOID AT ALL COST Series
Alex Cross ...... sigh
How about Louise Penney's Three Pines series, starting with Still Life. VIVE GAMACHE!And Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon books. Also the great Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly.
So many great series out there! I will never have enough time. Some of these books are on my TBR, some I have started. The only series I have finished in recent memory are:
Dragon Tattoo
Hunger Games
Divergent
50 Shades - hey that's not on here, lol
I'm close on the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.
Stephanie wrote: "How is Diana Gabaldons Outlander series not listed here?! Best series EVER."Yeah, good question! Outlander is an astounding series!
April
Outlander series should be on list...I also have to admit to loving The Hunger Games trilogy. Books I've read the fastest (up till 4 am to finish) and the most often.
Sean wrote: "Favorite series? Give me a good detective story by Agatha Christie, Rex Stout, or Raymond Chandler. That's at least four series to catch up on. Still not happy? Try Ed McBain's 87th Precinct: 55 ..."
Love Ed McBain and his 87th precinct novels. I've read many of them throughout my life.
Caught up with most of these, just need Red Rising. I don't know where The Raven Quartet is here though I am dying for that conclusion!
Have you read Cornelia Funke's new series, Reckless and Fearless? I will second you on Charles de Lint, Patrick Ness, Mary Doria Russell. Try the Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner. Graceling, Fire, and Bitterblue, by Kristin Cashore. The Lumatere Chronicles, by Melina Marchetta. Dublin Murder Squad books, by Tana French. The Sebastian St. Cyr mysteries by C. S. Harris.

Re-read the criteria and then you'll see why Harry Potter and Outlander aren't on the list.

I love the All souls trilogy as well
Melliott wrote: "Have you read Cornelia Funke's new series, Reckless and Fearless?"Yes! And the third installment is coming out soon, too!
Though I think they've run their course, James Patterson's Alex Cross series has been a favorite of mine for a long time.
I really enjoyed the Mr. Men series by Roger Hargreaves, although I found unravelling the hidden layers of deep political allegory a considerable challenge.
E. wrote: "Melliott wrote: "Have you read Cornelia Funke's new series, Reckless and Fearless?"Yes! And the third installment is coming out soon, too!"
It IS? First I've heard of it. What's it called? Is it being released in the U.S.?
My favorite series would surely be The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa and The Revenants by Amy Plum. Definitely.
None of these. I have really enjoyed:1. The Roy Grace series by Peter James
2. The Rizzoli & Isles series by Tess Gerritsen
3. The Ruth Galloway series by Elly Griffiths
The Huntress/FBI Thrillers series by Alexandra Sokoloff. If you like FBI profiling, good detective and a female serial killer, this series is for you. So far only 3 books, but halfway thru Book 1 I ordered all three in the series to read in order. Usually I take a break between series books - not this one. It's that good!
Definitely Miss Peregrine! Loved it! Emily wrote: "The Raven Cycle and Miss Peregrine for YA series!!!"
Lois McMaster Bujold, not only her Vorkosigan series, but her award winning Chalion fantasy series. She's the only author I buy a hardback for future rereading, but buy the early release arc as well, because I just can't wait to read anything she writes, and she never disappoints.
Awesome suggestions Marti - I will most definitely look into these! Thank you so much.Jool

ADignorantium wrote: "Though I think they've run their course, James Patterson's Alex Cross series has been a favorite of mine for a long time."I loved Cross's early work but had to walk away as the quality dropped off in the later novels. Try James Lee Burkes Dave Reaubeacheaux series.
I have devoured the Dave Reaubeacheaux series - one of my alltime favorites! And I'm glad to hear someone else say that about James Patterson... I don't even bother with his books anymore, sad to say.
Angela wrote: "I have read the Crossfire series. I have been seeing the Luner Chronicles on my feed on here. So, I am assuming that it is a good series. I guess I am going to have to put the series on my TBR list."They're pretty good. I liked the first one a lot, the second one wasn't so great, but the rest were.
Doraruss wrote: "Ha, the Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde are missing! These are incredible books."I'm going to try reading one more. I loved The Last Dragonslayer etc. by him, but then read The Eyre Affair and, while I admired the cleverness, didn't really get caught up in it.

Love Walt Longmire. And you should try watching the show. It's different from the books…but still good!

I read the first book of the Joe Pickett series just this year. Sometime in the future I hope to read the next ones I hope!

The first one in the series is "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie"."
I love that series! Fun to read and would have great potential to be a t.v. show/mini series.
