Announcing the Goodreads Android App!
Download the Goodreads Android app now! »
We heard you! Due to overwhelming popular demand, we've developed a new app for all you Android aficionados out there. Wander through the stacks of your local library or peruse the shelves of your favorite bookstore while simultaneously browsing Goodreads reviews. The next time you are deciding what to read, your to-read list will be handy. We're excited to make Goodreads more mobile and easier to access, and we will continue to add fun features for Android fans!
This initial version of the Android app offers:
- Check updates from your friends and those you follow
- Read friend reviews and community reviews of any book
- Manage your bookshelves
- Search our catalog of more than 8 million books
- View your profile and browse your shelves
- Find book recommendations from friends and other readers
If you own an Android device, we hope that you will give the Goodreads app a whirl. We welcome feedback, so please rate and review the app! (For iPhone users, we have an app for you too!)

Excellent app :-) just needs barcode scanning!!
If you'd add a barcode scanner for finding books, it'd be the only one needed. Now I have to use two apps :(
A way to scan in your books using your phone would be great, as well as an easier way to browse books.
Have already downloaded ap on my Android and works much better than what I was using before. Only thing I don't like is when I sync between Droid and computer my changes on either do not change the other. Don't like that. Have to change both to keep current. Am I doing something wrong?
I wish it would tell you a date/time for your friends updates so you know which ones you've already read :(

Awesome! Thanks so much. Especially great that it's for the 1.5 Android version since I can't upgrade my phone.
The #1 thing I want to use Goodreads for on my phone is when I'm in a bookstore, see an interesting book, and want to know if I already own it.For some reason this function is absent from the mobile web site, so I always have to use the full site on my phone, which is always difficult and a hassle. I hoped this app would let me search my books, but alas, it does not!
Please add the ability to search my own books - it's very nearly the only thing I want from the app. (Recognizing books by barcode or taking a photo of the cover, as e.g. Google Shopper does, would be slick too.)
Thanks!
Just got an Android last week, so I'm glad this app is available :) Just add the barcode scanner and I'll be a super-happy camper.

Within the app, you can just go to "My Books", choose to sort by Title, Author or something else, and just look down the list.
I've added all the books that I own to a Custom Shelf called "Own", and then it's just to search down the list, to see if you already own the book, or not.
You can also just search for the Books title or author in "Search Books", and there you can find the book you're looking at, then you can go to the books "page", and see your Rating, Status, and which Bookshelves you've added it to, etc.
And here it's very nice to have your own books added to a custom shelf called "Own", because then you'll just have to see whether the book is added to your "Own" bookshelf.

And then scrolling down the list on my mobile through all the titles. That is, a few (2? 3? 4?) thousand of them… 8-D
Thank goodness! It was driving me crazy trying to rate a book on the mobile site (browser access). This is SO much better, thanks!!!
For the next version, could you make it so we can save settings? Every time I view my books, I switch it to the "date added" view, but it doesn't remember that setting from one time to the next. Thanks!
I am having problems signing in in the xoom. I can type my credentials, then it processes but returns a message that I have been signed out. So I never get signed on. For now, I use the website....which I LOVE!!!
Natalie: are you using the good reads app or the goodreads Droid app? I cannot sign in to my good reads account at all. The app works fine if I don't sign in.
@Cindy - I am using the goodreads app (app posted at the top of this thread). No problems syncing with the website. Funny thing is, I could not get it to work on my android phone, would immediately sign me out. I wonder if you can only log in on one device, makes no sense, but could be the issue. Do you log in using a smartphone?
@Natalie I will try logging out of the site on the iTouch. I don't have a smartphone but I do have this loaded on the itouch. Thanks!
Glad to see there is an app for this, as I just got my new phone a few days ago. Now, my friend who has an iphone (I believe) can play GR trivia. Will we have that option at some point?
This is by far the best app I have on my phone, but it would be even better if you could browse lists, edit the names of shelves, and read the new recommendations :) Thanks for everything so far, especially the bar code scanner!
Works very well. I even did a review from my phone - only shortcoming there was I couldn't set "date read", so the book ended up moving to the end of my book list until I set the date from a computer.Having the recommendations would be nice.
Nice app. I won't use it much in the current form. The main thing I want for an app is the ability to search my library to see if I already have the book while I'm in the store. Being able to search by title or author is a major feature for me. I don't want to scroll thru a 100s of books to see if I already own a title.
Im using HTC Tattoo and there is no android market on tattoos so, i have found no place that i cand download goodreads app for my phone. Please add download link here too..
Any suggestions on how to sign-out of the app? I've got my kids sharing one tablet and I can only have one of them use the app. Frustrating.
