Announcing the Goodreads Android App!
Download the Goodreads Android app now! »
We heard you! Due to overwhelming popular demand, we've developed a new app for all you Android aficionados out there. Wander through the stacks of your local library or peruse the shelves of your favorite bookstore while simultaneously browsing Goodreads reviews. The next time you are deciding what to read, your to-read list will be handy. We're excited to make Goodreads more mobile and easier to access, and we will continue to add fun features for Android fans!
This initial version of the Android app offers:
- Check updates from your friends and those you follow
- Read friend reviews and community reviews of any book
- Manage your bookshelves
- Search our catalog of more than 8 million books
- View your profile and browse your shelves
- Find book recommendations from friends and other readers
If you own an Android device, we hope that you will give the Goodreads app a whirl. We welcome feedback, so please rate and review the app! (For iPhone users, we have an app for you too!)

HOORAY! My go-go life just got a heck of a lot easier!
This is awesome and it's free! I LOVE YOU GUYS! I'm so excited..doodoodoodoo...and I just can't hide it!
Is there a way to view updates from everyone (like you can on the website) instead of just those from friends and people you follow?
Ridley wrote: "I like it, and it's a great start, but what's with the weird ordering of the shelves? Alphabetical is much more useful than number of books on the shelves. Why do it differently than on the website..."Hey Ridley, sorry about that, we'll fix in the next release.
About Groups, just to reiterate what I said earlier... rest assured they will be added! Just like the barcode scanner. ;) This is still an "initial" release, we know there are a lot of features we need to add, and we will add them in the near future.

Hooray! So much easier than using MyBookDroid, synching the information then updating to amke sure it matches. Only thing that would make it better is being able to scan isbn numbers for faster and exact edition adding.
Jeremy wrote: "Wow, I am so close to making the switch to a Droid (upgrade time) - this might just put me over the top!"Wow, thanks!
Just curious, what are you switching from?
It is a great app, but I would like to be able to update my status offline and save my shelves in my phone
One feature I missed in Casper's third-paty app: ability to update progress in % (for ebooks) - great.Features I miss from Casper's app:
* OAuth - seriously, guys...
* choosing an "startup screen" – I chose to start up with the 'to-get' bookshelf, so in a bookstore I just tap the app and have a list of books to check out loading - it's really faster then having to tap through 2 more screens while on a cell phone network.
* some options available after "long tap" on the book (edit bookshelves, update status (for currently-reading), rate, add book etc). Currently "long tap" does the very same thing that simple tap does - display book info.
I would advise to get a look at the Casper's app and get some ideas from there – it is a very basic one, but what it does id does very well.

It's pretty solid! Well done! I love it! I've been waiting a long time for a goodreads app that actually works!
Can't wait till I can upgrade my phone now :) ... I'm planning on getting an android from my Blackberry Pearl 8130 (since I can't get any good apps with this phone since it's discontinued and old lol)
I got my kindle two weeks ago and started using goodreads a day or two after, my ipone then fell into a pool and I went with a droid but couldn't find an app. What great timing!
Update: we just released the 1.4 version!Changes:
* See your friends (and other users' friends)!
* Better user profile pages!
* Review editor fits on all screens better
* When sorting books, what you're sorting by is always shown
* More status updates in more places
Chris wrote: "Is there a ipod touch app yet?"Chris, yes. It's the same that works on the iPhone: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/goodre...

WHAT ABOUT GROUPS!!!!! THAT'S ALL I DO ON GOODREADS!!!!!!!!
Found a bug. When I go to My Friends, a book that one person is reading is repeated for someone else who is not reading that book.
Elijah wrote: "Maybe this is a strange suggestion, but it would be great if, when writing updates or what-have-you, the app knew to capitalize the first letter of new sentences, in the way my phone does for most ..."This works as expected on my phone for this app, so I wonder why that's not working for you. New sentences do have the first letter in caps.
It doesn't capitalize the first letter of each sentence for me either. I've got Android 2.2 on an HTC Incredible.
I'm enjoying using the Goodreads app. Will y'all be adding an "I'm finished" option for progress updates?Again, thank you very much for the time your development team has invested in producing this application. Well done!
Yay, eventually. I've been waiting for a goodreads app since I've got my android phone. I really like the design -- looks really elegant. Good job, guys.
Am I right in assuming that this doesn't work for BlackBerry devices. Can't download it anyway I try or any other Goodreads App.
