Most Read Books of the 2023 Reading Challenge

With the 2023 Goodreads Reading Challenge in its final lap, the time has come for a sneak peek at this year’s page-turning action. For instance, which books have been most popular with readers in this year’s challenge? It’s pretty fascinating, actually.
But first, some raw numbers. According to our latest count, more than 7.6 million readers across the globe participated in this year’s challenge, pledging to read more than 330 million books. Wow. We tried to calculate the total number of pages read, using average book length, but it crashed the supercomputer here at Goodreads World Headquarters.
As for the books themselves, we’ve listed below the top titles marked as Read (as opposed to Want to Read) by those who signed up for the challenge. Some takeaways: Rebecca Yarros’ surprise sensation Fourth Wing took the top overall spot, highlighting a big year for fantasy-romance novels in general. You’ll also find a lot of familiar author names haunting the top side of the list: Hoover and Henry, Maas and Michaelides.
Click around and you’ll find a little bit of everything—from mysteries to memoirs, queer fantasy to insightful contemporary fiction. And, of course, plenty of romance, with everyone from book nerds to hockey players finding love and/or lust. Oh, also: magical realism concerning octopi.
Check out this year’s list, add anything promising to your Want to Read shelf, and feel free to continue the conversation in the comments section. Congratulations to all of this year’s participants! Book nerds, assemble!

Soo y'all. We're gonna try Red, White, And Royal Blue 'cause it's everywhere. I've seen some good and bad ratings.
I have read 18 of these. Have expanded my genres in the last year or two and it has opened my thought process in many ways.
I haven’t read any of these at all, but 8 are on my to-read list. I am so bad at challenges and didn’t stick to my own personal one this year….A new year will be starting soon and I will re-set the same challenge. 🤞🏻😂
I read 14 of these, although some on prior years. Some others are on my want to read list, so I’ll get to them at some point!
I read 5 with 6 more on my want to read list. Out of this list Tomorrow Tomorrow Tomorrow was my favorite. I thought It ends with us is a good book club book to get women who may be hiding in secrecy to talk and I enjoyed watching Lessons in Chemistry on Apple TV although I didn’t really care for the addition of the Civil Rights Twist on the show.
I've read 6 out of the 8 i own. Considering I'm also new to booktok I think that's good. Most are on my TBR tho.
I’ve read 3 of these books. There are some books listed here that are on my tbr list and have on my bookshelves.
I have read 4 and 3 of them this year but still always nice to find the books you like in the lists. There are books on my TBR too.
I've only read a few. Emily Henry, Ali Hazelwood and Colleen Hoover again? I wanted to read Fourth Wing, Yellowface, Throne of Glass and The Love Hypothesis but someone got them before I could.
Surprisingly I read 11 of these (out of my 151 books read this year)There are few here that are on my TBR
i read 13 of these, and I plan to read book lovers on 31st, to end the year happily w a good book! so, 14! and thats a record for me!!
I've read 12 of these but only two from this year's challenge. And I still have a few of these on my TBR.
