Get Cozy! 30 Books with Major Autumn Vibes

Autumn, as a season, has a particular vibe. It’s the season of winding down, of things ending. The days get shorter and colder—in the northern hemisphere, anyway. It’s a melancholy kind of vibe. A good time for reading.
In an effort to roll with the season, we’ve gathered below 30 books that conjure that elusive autumn vibe. This has been a totally unscientific and largely intuitive process, cutting across various genres, styles, and moods. Like autumn itself, the books here can get a little creepy, a little cozy, and occasionally a little Gothic.
You’ll find universally acclaimed classics along with new historical fiction and some very recent titles that ride that autumnal vibe. Also watch for back-to-school stories and the usual Halloween parade: ghosts, vampires, witches, and assorted weirdness.
Click on the book cover images for more information about each title, and feel free to add any autumn leads to your Want to Read shelf. If you have any additional suggestions for your fellow Goodreaders, post them below in the comments section.

Shadow of the Wind is my favourite book of all time - gothic mystery set in the later half of the year in barcelona during the war. Go into it with no knowledge other than that and I promise it will sweep you off your feet. :')

I've read Before the Coffee Gets cold and it's definitely a fall must read. I loved it so much, I didn't want it to end but I also had the urge to read it until the last page asap. I read it in spring, and if my TBR wasn't kilometric, I'd for sure give it a re-read!
Witchmark Trilogy by CL Polk - romantic, magical, fun!

I just read What Moves the Dead and liked that one a bunch too.
If you want super creepy I liked Let the Right One In.

*Renee Clemente The Scorpio Races is the most atmospheric, fall-vibes book I've read*
Thanks,adding!

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff
The Lights of Prague by Nicole Jarvis

I think maybe they meant Secret History, Shadow of the Wind, and maybe Practical Magic? I dunno what "classic" is classified as... is 20 years enough?

Then there's also The Wasp Factory by Iain Banks

One of my favorites. It is incredibly charming and has some of the most wonderfully sensuous descriptions of the sights and smells of Autumn and the Carnival. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

An Oldie but Goodie Horror story with the feel of Stephen King
Sometimes what we see isn't what is.
It was almost as if time had not touched the village of Cornwa..."
Harvest Home is an underrated gem. It led me to the genre of 'Folk Horror' that has become my Autumn reading fixation in recent years.

thanks for remind me that this is on my "permanent" bookshelf and I have been meaning to reread it. I loved it the first go-around.

try "the thirteenth tale", kinda creepy but nothing witchy, satan-y, etc.
If you haven't read it already!
