Get Cozy! 30 Books with Major Autumn Vibes

Autumn, as a season, has a particular vibe. It’s the season of winding down, of things ending. The days get shorter and colder—in the northern hemisphere, anyway. It’s a melancholy kind of vibe. A good time for reading.
In an effort to roll with the season, we’ve gathered below 30 books that conjure that elusive autumn vibe. This has been a totally unscientific and largely intuitive process, cutting across various genres, styles, and moods. Like autumn itself, the books here can get a little creepy, a little cozy, and occasionally a little Gothic.
You’ll find universally acclaimed classics along with new historical fiction and some very recent titles that ride that autumnal vibe. Also watch for back-to-school stories and the usual Halloween parade: ghosts, vampires, witches, and assorted weirdness.
Click on the book cover images for more information about each title, and feel free to add any autumn leads to your Want to Read shelf. If you have any additional suggestions for your fellow Goodreaders, post them below in the comments section.

Go into it with no knowledge other than that and I promise it will sweep you off your feet. :')
BETWEEN by L.L. Starling needs to be on this list! It takes place in the 11 days before Halloween in a cozy village run by a coven of witches. It's hilarious (think Gilmore Girls meets The Princess Bride/Labyrinth/Shrek/Ella Enchanted) with a 30 yrd old kindergarten teacher MC and a sorcerer-king MC in tight pants that gives me all the Howl vibes. I would add The Witches of New York by Ami McKay, and for a fun witchy read Once We Were Witches, Sara Driver. Look forward to digging into many of these. I don't think I've read any of them!

I would add Thorn Jack by Katherine Harbour! It’s set during the fall I upstate New York complete with a gothic college, fae, and the underworld. It’s quite dark but SO good. No one ever talks about this book and I will never understand why!!

I would like to start reading tomorrow All Quiet on the Western Front, at least that is my intention. But when I'm inside the bookshop I might change suddenly idea 🤭

I've read Before the Coffee Gets cold and it's definitely a fall must read. I loved it so much, I didn't want it to end but I also had the urge to read it until the last page asap. I read it in spring, and if my TBR wasn't kilometric, I'd for sure give it a re-read!
Witchmark Trilogy by CL Polk - romantic, magical, fun!

If autumn is code for creepy read James Herbert’s “Shrine.” I read it a couple years back thanks to a dear friend of mine. It’s the scariest book I’ve read so far. Thanks for all the other book recommendations. I love when they post these lists for the comments most of all.

Anything by Laura Purcell and Thin Air and Dark Matter both by Michelle Paver would all be great for Halloween vibes.

I think this is the first booklist this year that I've been exited about and added a bunch of things to my TBR. Nice job GR

HOW did I not realize that Practical Magic was a book? I have loved the movie with Nicole Kidman for years... now I have a new book series to read!

Harvest Home is an underrated gem. It led me to the genre of 'Folk Horror' that has become my Autumn reading fixation in recent years.
My novella, "Decay: a tale of destruction" comes out tomorrow. I think it is the perfect autumn read <3
