Trail XIII - The Path to Perdition. This is a short story anthology containing horror stories from authors all over the world, including yours truly.
Trail XIII - The Path to Perdition, a collection of 13 horror short stories by authors from different countries.Disclaimer: My story is included in the book.
The Shining by Stephen King or The Stand. He's my favourite author.
I recommend The Troop by Nick Cutter. Has a very King-like vibe to it and some very disturbing narrative imagery.
Shadow wrote: "Can anyone recommend horror book that is LGBTQ+?"Widdershins
Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening

Shadow wrote: "Can anyone recommend horror book that is LGBTQ+?"You can't go wrong with the works of Poppy Z Brite and Dennis Cooper. Just understand this isn't Stephen King territory. This is far more disturbing!
I am going to be reading Sacrilege by Barb Avon. Brilliant characters that immerse you in their emotions and story.

JJ wrote: "Junji ito's works are great too! Uzumaki vol.2 is my favorite from him (until i explore more)"His works are amazing! Gyo is very good, creepy, and short! It's only two volumes long! I would def recommend!
Molly wrote: "Does anyone have any recommendations for horror graphic novels? :)"Uzumaki by Junji ito!
I'm going back to the classics this month with Dracula by Bram Stoker, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide by Robert Louis Stevenson and my favorite gothic thriller Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier! Right now I'm finishing up Interview with the Vampire by Ann Rice and it's so good, I can't believe I've never read it. I hear the rest of the Vampire Chronicles by Rice are just as good.White Smoke looks tempting though so I'll have to fit that one in too now.
This October I am reading four books of horror: "Necronomicon", a collection of H. P. Lovecraft stories; "Histórias Extraordinárias", a collection of Edgar Allan Poe short stories; "Medo Imortal", a collection of horror short stories written by Brazilian authors; and "Mexican Gothic" by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
The ShiningMy favourite horror book is The Shining I read it every couple of years. Check out my horror novel, Little White Bones (on Amazon)
Reviews
‘I couldn’t put Little white Bones down. Grant conjured up such a rich cast of characters and haunting scenes.’
‘A dark story that kept me wondering what will happen and where will I be transported to next. My feelings towards the characters strengthened as the story progressed. Definitely an ending I hadn’t foreseen.’

The Institute is a fun —albeit sub-par King— book that is not exactly "scary". I'd recommend 'The Whisper Man' if you're looking for scarier of if you'd like to stay with King then check out Salem's Lot or, of course, Pet Semetary which to me is still the scariest book I've ever read. Don't be fooled by the title, it's not a gaggle of old pets coming together to kill people. Much more insidious than that. Michael Hall's performance on Audible for it is also spectacular.
To me, Stephen King's earlier novels are by far his best work. Dean Koontz is good. I need to read more of his work.I'd like to add my Horror/Thriller to the list--A Body Resurrected.
Happy Reading!
The Cabin At The End Of The World by Paul Tremblay was one of the dumbest books I've ever read. I cannot believe all the 4 and 5 star ratings and reviews it has received. As for what I will read, I am looking forward to The Final Girls Support Group by Grady Hendrix. It's looks pretty good. But looks can be deceiving because I thought Cabin looked good too. It wasn't.
I love the Jezebel spooky stories contest but have a hard time with graphic horror. Any recommendations for a scaredy cat?
It's great to feature horror in a special week. My favorite genre! Now you can make your October into a Shocktober. Spooky greets Peter
Margaret wrote: "I love the Jezebel spooky stories contest but have a hard time with graphic horror. Any recommendations for a scaredy cat?"Try anything from Darcy Coates. She has a lot really great books, and they are not graphic or gory at all. If you like anything paranormal like spooky haunted houses, that seems to be her specialty. I recommend The Haunting of Rookward House, or her latest novel The Haunting of Leigh Harker. I hope this helps.

Widdershins is a dangerously addictive series... Wonderful!
I'm looking for a horror novel that I read more than 10 years or so ago.. Maybe one of you can help me out.. The only clear-ish thing I can remember is that there's a scene (similar to one that's in Final Destination 2) where someone is about to or maybe does stick their hand into a garbage disposal while you're just waiting to see if that person is going to be horribly mangled by the evil or ghost or whatever it is in the house. Thanks!
