The Most Read Books on Goodreads in October

Posted by Cybil on October 24, 2019
What's popular right now? Memoirs, books available on Kindle Unlimited and Prime Reading, and the latest from big authors, including Margaret Atwood, Stephen King, and Ann Patchett.

Here at Goodreads we like to know what people are reading. From peeking at the books of our fellow commuters to not-so-surreptitiously checking out the stacks on our coworkers' desks, we embrace our curious nature. That's why we're rounding up what Goodreads members around the world are currently reading. These are the top books, ranked by the number of people who have read them this month.

Jessica Haider I've read 10 of the 20 so far and have a few more sitting waiting on my to-read shelf. I loved: Becoming, Daisy Jones & the Six, The Goldfinch, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine, Little Fires Everywhere, and Handmaid's Tale. Aiming to get to The Testaments in the next week or so. Can't wait!

Matchbook Over twenty years and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is still in the top twenty.

Kate (Feathered Turtle Press Reviews) I read The Vine Witch but wasn't very impressed. The prose and world were lovely, but chapters often lacked plot-relevant content and the revelations were mundane.

kittykat AKA Ms. Tortitude I've read 2, have 10 on my TBR and am not interested in the rest...

message 5: by Baba (new)

Baba Two Atwood's in the Top Eight! Love it!

message 6: by Paige (new)

Paige Stirling I am just finishing off The Testaments, which will make it 12 of 20 read. There are two more on my list of want to reads. A great list!

message 7: by Peggy (new)

Peggy I've read 10 and one is on my to read shelf. Actually 3 of them are on my to read shelf, but 2 of them will shortly be removed as I started the first one, didn't care for it, so will delete the 2nd.

message 8: by Annette (new)

Annette I’ve read 6 of the 20, 3 on “to read” shelf. Although I loved The Handmaid’s Tale, I might skip the sequel. Don’t like what I’m reading about it.

Cendaquenta Is it just me or is this 99% the same list every month...

message 12: by Inês (new)

Inês Martins dos Santos I read "Becoming" months ago and it was quite touching. Glad to see it on the list.

It's always the same list and it's always got a sub category that somehow refers to 'female writers'.

message 14: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Smith Byron’s poems

Katia Brittany wrote: "Over twenty years and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is still in the top twenty."

"After all this time?" - "Always"

message 16: by Joanne (new)

Joanne Fate I'm listening to "Just Above My Head" by James Baldwin. I've read and listened to much of his works, both fiction and non-fiction, but missed this along the way. It's an amazing book

message 17: by R (new)

R Ahhh Harry Potter will never get old...

message 18: by Lori S. (new)

Lori S. Read two, liked one of those two a lot, but the rest of these have little appeal. Can't win them all.

message 19: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer Nolan I've read 2 of the twenty so far and have some of the others on my TBR list.

message 20: by Jamie (new)

Jamie I have read 8, have 6 on my to-read list, and am currently reading The Testaments and just got City of Girls from Cloud Library. I am also currently reading Wakenhyrst by Michelle Paver and listening to Wanderers by Chuck Wendig.
