Timothy Keable I've just reread Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination. My favourite novel of all time. Considered by many to be the single best Science fiction novel.

message 108: by Allegra (new)

Allegra For once, I'm already reading a book that works for a GR Week (as opposed to trying to hunt one down). Last year I found a sci-fi short story, but this year I'll be finishing The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making.
Then it's back to my over-scheduled challenge lists.

Angel 一匹狼 James wrote: "Just wrapped up "The Fountains of Paradise" by Arthur C. Clarke, and now about to start in on Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy of books. I'm also working my way, slowly but surely, through Dune."
I love "Dune". It changed how I saw books and even the 'real world'. Do you find it very difficult ^^?
And how did you find "The Fountains of Paradise"? I haven't read it, but I like Arthur C. Clarke.

message 110: by Bernadette (new)

Bernadette Looking over the Goodreads Top 50 list reminded me how much I like Kurt Vonnegut, so next up is Cat's Cradle.

message 117: by Marcos (last edited Aug 13, 2019 03:28PM) (new)

message 118: by Alvaro (new)

message 119: by Jason (new)

Jason Had no idea it was sci-fi/fantasy week, but Terry Pratchett's The Color of Magic is next on my reading list, so that's my choice!

message 121: by Robyn (new)

Robyn Prokop I'm working my way through Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time fantasy series. Have just finished Book 4, 'The Shadow Rising. 'Boy they are loooong! A bit of a brick in hardcopy and tiny font - might switch to my ipad to read the next one! There are things I like about Jordan's style and characterisation - which keeps me chugging along. I feel as if I am learning heaps from this writer as I embark on Book 2 in my own series :) Since it's Sci-Fi week, I might even start book 5! The Fires of Heaven.

Barry Cunningham Reading 'Dark Matter' by Juli Zeh - a truly phenomenal book.
They way it is written and the story lines remind me of my first encounters with The Confederacy of Dunces, Catch 22 and The Time Traveller's Wife. Be prepared to be drawn in, astounded and captivated by characters and descriptive abilities that will leave you desperate for more!! message 148: by Lucy (new)

Lucy Just started re-reading the first book in the Chronicle of Wightblade series by self-published author L Philipp Naughton.
The first book Terra Nostra and the Book of Waiting is very intriguing and can't wait to relive what all the characters get up to.
Definetly give it a go if you are interested in a quirky fantasy novel set on another planet.

message 149: by Annette (new)

Annette Green I am just now starting a new book - it's a fantasy trilogy, The Emperor's Blades The Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne. I can't say much about it, since I am only just starting but I read this review, by Navessa:

"Some authors are simply writers; they take words and put them down on the page. Some authors are poets; they take those words and twist them around into beautiful prose. Then some authors, like this author, are weavers. They take those words and that beautiful prose and work them into immensely complicated storylines. These lines become the thread with which they knit their books into creation. They stitch them to and fro as they weave a literary tapestry and while reading, you get mere glimpses of the pattern they’re creating. Only at the end is the grand design revealed, and when it is, you can do nothing but sit back and wonder at the beauty in front of you. Thank you, Mr. Staveley, for reminding me of ALL the reasons that I love to read."

....and it sounded like something I would like. If anyone has read it, I'd love to hear their take on it.

message 150: by Annette (new)

Annette Green I loved Isaac Asimov's Foundation Series, and basically everything he's written.
