If I get on with the book (I'm definitely hoping so!) I'll check out the movie! :)

message 53: by Phyllis (new)

Phyllis Griffiths I am currently re-reading Uncompromising Honor and am about half way through it. I read a great deal of Sci-fi and Fantasy. As has been said by other reader : every week is sci-fi and fantasy week for me. I am planning on re-reading David Weber The Safehold Series, Volume I: starting with Off Armageddon Reef

message 54: by Brad (new)

Brad Furminger Just finishing up The Name of the Wind and will be checking my to-do list for a good classic sci-fi title. Perhaps some H.G. Wells.

message 55: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I'm currently reading Ken Liu's The Grace of King, and once I finish that it's going to be Brandon Sanderson's Bands of Mourning.

message 56: by Kaleb (new)

Kaleb Jacobs I love space books but my favorite is lost in outer space Apollo 13

message 57: by Cendaquenta (new)

Cendaquenta I'm participating in a readathon that's all about myth/fairytale retellings, and after that another readathon about fantasy written by women, so I will be consuming so much SFF over the coming weeks. Plus I'm off to Worldcon.
Currently I'm on A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes, a female-focused take on the Trojan War.

message 58: by Isabella (new)

Isabella De Oliveira Campos Oh, I am reading so many books at the same time...Some good, some not-so-good and even some rare cases of science fiction written by fellow Brazilians:

-O Androide by Paulo de Castro, a Brazilian science fiction book which I just started an hour ago and I still don't know much about what it is.

-Fractais Tropicais, an award-winning collection of Brazilian science fiction and weird fiction stories. Like I said, some stories are good, some not-so-good, but even despite the not-so-good ones I am still glad to see that there are enough Brazilians writing science fiction and weird fiction to allow for such a large collection (it has 30 stories).

-The Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin. Sorry for its fans but I am not liking it, I am actually hating it. Finding it really boring. Maybe as it gets to the end it might get better.

-Elric of Melniboné, the 1972 novel by Michael Moorcock. Liking it very much so far. Really looking forward to see Elric get the Stormbringer.

-The Neverending Story by Michael Ende in the original German. Now, that's how you write a fantasy book!! I've been struggling with it for months because I am still learning German and I am not fluent on the language, but so far what I read from this book is glorious and beautiful.

-Half a year ago I was reading All the Birds in the Sky by Charlie Jane Anders but I stopped reading just before Book Three. I plan on resuming reading it next month.

-In a few minutes I will start reading The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N. K. Jemisin. I have a positive feeling about this book and about Jemisin in general.

-Can I call the Mahabharata a fantasy book? Because I am reading a really abridged version of around 300 pages of the epic Indian poem. Really confusing, with story inside story inside story, but not that bad so far.

message 59: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Tate Sci-Fi aficionados might want to tackle the Hugo and Nebula Awards Challenge! :)

Alli Rachael wrote: "I'll be reading the third hardcover of Saga (no spoilers please!) and hopefully finally digging into "Huntress" by Malinda Lo. And I'll be working on more books in my own fantasy series, "A New Age..."

"Huntress" is wonderful! "Ash" is still my favorite of Malinda Lo's, but "Huntress" is such a close second. Enjoy it!

message 61: by Gareth (new)

Gareth Howells I have just read "Games House" by Claire North and "The Stars now unclaimed" by Drew Williams. Really enjoyed both of them.
(Games House was absolutely stunning)

Next i'm either going to read Dirty Job by Christopher Moore or Non-Stop by Brian Aldiss.

- i'm also writing the last part of my new novel too....which is a comedy science fiction story of a band travelling the star systems, gigging.

I just got started on ths series on Audible. My daughter overheard some of it and she is hooked, too.
She is not a reader (dyslexia), so Audible has been a blessing for us.

Lori Peterson Currently Reading: an ARC copy of PlanetFall, book six in the Infinity's End series by Eric Warren and Space City by Jared Austin.

message 73: by Donna (new)

Donna Krebs I'm reading The Court of the Air by Stephen Hunt. I'm about a third of the way though. So far its not that exciting but I'm stubborn so I'll finish it. Has anyone read this and what did you think?

My boyfriend got me on Sanderson and I was shocked by my obsession with him. I've plowed through his series, I agree I'm shocked that they don't get mentioned more often now that I've read them. Do we really need another list of books with harry potter at the top? Pretty sure 99% of the people on here have read the Harry Potter Series, so lets make lists for more unknown books.

message 75: by EowynRN (new)

EowynRN I'd love to see a Top 50 Sci/Fi fantasy books or series by a female Author (and Please don't make 7 of them Harry Potter and three Mockingjay!)

message 76: by Cendaquenta (new)

Cendaquenta Sanderson and Jordan are on the "Top 50 Fantasy" list. Sanderson's on it twice.
The rest of the articles are about newly published or upcoming books.
I'd say they've had their due.

message 90: by Kim (new)

Kim Elric; Fortress of the Pearl. Just started the whole saga, reading in internal chronological order D:

message 91: by Holly (new)

Holly For this week I'm reading The Well at the World's End by William Morris. Gandalf makes his first appearance in this book, published in 1896. That's right, the wallpaper guy created Gandalf, and Tolkien "borrowed" him.

When I finish that I have other books waiting on my shelf. None of the recommended books, though because the GR picks always turn out to be a total train wreck for my tastes.

message 92: by Ed (new)

Ed I started Short Stories IV: Fantasy & Sci-Fi Short Stories IV Fantasy & Sci-Fi by Rich DiSilvio It starts with a BANG! I've read other books by DiSilvio, he never disappoints. Can't wait to get into the next stories in this volume to see where his wild imagination will take me.

message 93: by Roxana (new)

Roxana Postaru Reading Recursion by Blake Crouch. Amazing!!

message 94: by ripleyaeryn (new)

ripleyaeryn I'm currently reading "Dune Messiah", Dune's sequel. It's taking some time to set the plot altogether and I'm experiencing a weird moment in this novel.

message 95: by Edward (new)

Edward Fowler Re-reading Monster Hunter Files and The Face of Chaos.

message 96: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Queen of Air and Darkness

Reading the final book of the Dark Artifices trilogy is perfect for Sci-Fi and Fantasy week! At 800+ pages, it'll take me a week to read anyway lol

message 97: by Mark (new)

Mark Heyerly I'm crawling my way through Steven Erickson's Malazan series. I think they are the first books I have read that I'd rate as "excellent to superb", and yet find myself completely unable to binge read them.

I am mixing in Brian Staveley's Unhewn Throne series (very good, but in many ways almost too similar to the Malazan), and John Scalzi's Interdependency series (in the 2nd book and loving it).

message 98: by John (new)

John Gorman I'm halfway through Mort. I'm enjoying it very much, but I am already lining up new stuff I want to read. A friend suggested I check out The Game-Players of Titan. I love Philip K. Dick's work so I am probably going to check that out next.

message 99: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Reading Dark Age by Pierce Brown.

message 100: by Adisa (new)

Adisa I have been reading classics for a period of time and would like to read something Sci-Fi or Fantasy. Any good recommendatios besides the ones listed in this article?
