Ten Ways You Know You're a Goodreads Member

Your Want to Read shelf is out of control. You need to update your reading status. You'd rather be reading your book right now. (Sorry, we'll let you get back to that in a minute!)

For our Goodreads Ten-Year Anniversary Celebration, we asked you to complete this sentence: You know you're a Goodreads member when…
Your top answers are below. Check them out and then tell us what makes you a Goodreads member in the comments.
1. "Your husband looks at you funny when you give him four out of five stars after he's done mowing the lawn." -Elizabeth

3. "You obsessively hype up Goodreads to every single person you know. It's like the happiest cult I've been a part of. Anytime someone mentions anything to do with books, I say, 'You know what would help with that? Goodreads.'" -Carolyn
4. "You recommend all your books to your friends and then smile when you see the same book pop up on THEIR to-read lists!" -Allison
5. "You can't start a book without immediately going to the app or website to change the book from 'to read' to 'currently reading.'" -Kristin
6. "You type 'goo' into your browser, and Goodreads comes up before Google." -Alex

8."You update your reading status before going to bed every night." -Lana
9. "You mentally rate the book while you are reading it, constantly changing the rating based on how impressed you are with the book. 'Three stars. Wow! Four stars at least… Now this brings it down to two… Not bad, four stars again… That was a solid five stars!'" -Vlada
10. "You check your Reading Challenge like it's the stock market." -Tessa

I feel #5 on a spiritual level
flag
I always have to update my status to "currently reading" before I can continue with a book (I've usually read at least the first chapter by that point).
You know you're a Goodreads member because you like having an online list of books you've read every year. That way you can easily check to see if you've already read a book. "So many books, so little time." Also, I love the giveaway books. Being a book addict I look forward to winning books I may not have bought yet. It's like having an early Christmas present.
Stephanie wrote: "Number 6 - I only type G into my browser and Goodreads comes up. :-)"Same here! :)
"Goo"? Hahaha. My url autocompletes to GoodReads as soon as I tap "g". If I don't just hit the link on my "Most Visited Sites" page when I open the tab first. xD
I read more than I have time to grasp and navigate the the site .if I had known the Goodread📚 site😩 in any way I would have been posting and, knowing where to look for questions which many,So after being on it for several years I was looking for a book on the internet.. and kept getting sent here😁. But Forgot my password. And clueless how to navigate the entire place. But I READ 4 BOOKS a DAY.. just needed a better coach to close folks when we come on board.😉😩.

That's me. Spent way too much time trying to organise my to read list yesterday and only got through about 80 of my 600+!!!
Dianne wrote: "Another one is you never add a book to your to read list without first checking the reviews on Goodreads. I do this all the time."Me too. Unless it's an author I know, I read the reviews first. The scary part is being so familiar with regular reviewers that I can usually tell if I'll like something from what they think!
Numbers 5 and 10 are SO ME. I thought I was the only one!! I love Goodreads so much, it has since edged out all of my other social media accounts!
I check my reading challenge status like it is the stock market.I also hound readers I know to sign up so we can see what each other is reading.
And I thought I was bad! I'm not anywhere near to all this. My OCD is OK; my ADD/ADHD is just fine. Now I Only have to worry about all my other compulsions and delusions.
When you can't read the New York Times Book Review without having Goodreads open so you can save books to read as you come across them. My "to read" is growing and all 10 are very accurate. A woman getting a pedicure in the chair next to me while on vacation recommended Goodreads to me - one of the best tips I ever received!
Yes to 2, 5, and 10. and "I wish" to 7 : ).
Most of these are true for me, but particularly #10. I am all about lists, and the competitive streak in me gets such joy out of meeting a goal I have set for myself (now if only I could apply that to getting on the treadmill...). I am a relatively newish member to Goodreads, but it has changed my reading habits and my life (as if I wasn't reading enough before I joined :/) I did a reading challenge of 40 books last year and finished out over 200% to goal, and I am already 100% to my goal of 50 for this year, with a few extra months of reading to spare. Do I dare try for 100 next year??
Most of these are me! 2,4,5,9,10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was never this much of a book nerd. But love it! Thanks Goodreads!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tara wrote: "Most of these are true for me, but particularly #10. I am all about lists, and the competitive streak in me gets such joy out of meeting a goal I have set for myself (now if only I could apply that..."Let's both 100.

5. "You can't start a book without immediately going to the app or website to change the book from 'to read' to 'currently reading.'"YES. except from "want to read" to "read" as soon as I finish a book and close the back cover.
6. "You type 'goo' into your browser, and Goodreads comes up before Google."
or even just "go" or "g" in the address bar...
Thank you and HBD Goodreads!
Not only do I mentally rate the books I'm reading, I start thinking about my review and note the condition, sometimes bemoaning the latter. :-)
Hahaha this is great!! I always have to change my reading status and make sure I put my book into currently reading. While I am reading a book I think about, what review I am going to give it too! This is great!! :)

I already have my nose in a book at every possible opportunity....
Oh no! I am a hopeless case I am guilty of all ten! How do I find a cure. I can't get out to a counsellor because the books are blocking the hall. 😉

2&3, 5&6, 8-10, and I think we need to add one.You know you're a Goodreads member when…
When it's your Goodreads updates you check first, THEN Facebook.
3, 6 and 7 are true for me, but the best one is 9 - it's just so totally true and so perfectly describes the process of rating each book. I also think up nice comments while still reading a book (but later, when goodreads is actually open in front of me, I can't remember any of them XD). Thank you, good reads, for turning a crazy obsession into a crazier one but slightly more organized! XD
Another thing I love about Goodreads is how it bridges the gap between author and reader. I have had actual personal responses from three of my favorite authors! And yeah, "g" in my browser gets me here.
the G is definitely true for me lol and you know your a goodreads member when everyone is excited about the same book and you get to celebrate with everyone lol
I am terrible check in here every chance I can. I'm on here more than any other site. Youtube comes close
