periodic reading-order repost

What it says: my own reading order recs.

Judging from recent readers reviews I've seen surface, somewhere out there is a reading order that starts with Falling Free, in strict chronology. This may be the fault of the online booksellers' robotic insistence that we number the series books in their catalogs, which we duly did when we put them up. And I can't say starting there is wrong, but it's certainly not the only route into the series. What will be the "best" route will depend on the individual reader and is therefore unpredictable, at least by me.

Feel free to pass this link along.

Claire Hess The order is irrelevant for the first time reader; each book is great on its own. My first read of the series was random because I just read which ever one I could find at the bookstore on that trip. Only on rereads do I order as my mood and the strict chronology work for me. Rereads of all the series happen ever few years; I'm a total LMB fan.
