Lois interviews Miles

The comments on the Pen & Des interview a couple of posts ago reminded me of this older one, done as a promo for Uncle Hugo's SF Bookstore -- by internal evidence, just before Cryoburn came out, and before Captain Vorpatril's Alliance or Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen were thought of. CVA might have been dimly brewing, but the Key Idea -- Tej the Jacksonian-Cetagandan Princess -- had not yet slotted in to start things rolling.

message 1: by Norine Luker (new)

Norine Luker I loved this! Makes me want to go and reread the series.

Jerri Fun. Thank you for sharing. And, of course, for sharing the worlds you have developed with us.

My career could not have existed without you all.

Louann Miller re dinner party: "You did that by yourself. I merely didn't stop you." That is pretty much Miles in a nutshell. (Which would be a good idea, but that he would have bad dreams.)

message 5: by YES (new)

YES Fun! Now we need an interview of Cordelia!

message 6: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Oh, that was fun! Yes, indeed, how about Cordelia? I wonder what she'd say about being a character in your work. I wonder what she'd say about what you've done with/to her son and other loved ones...

Pleeeeeease?

Heh. I think Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen is as good and complete an interview with Cordelia as I could write.

(I recently reread it... sometimes rereading one's old work makes one less satisfied with it, but this actually made me more pleased.)

Steve Oh, my. This was hilarious -- and enlightening. As one of those people you talked with about cryonics, I especially appreciated it. I had kind of guessed that "long-term" view was where you were coming from when you wrote *Cryoburn*. You came up with a very different take on it than any other author has, and I really liked the creativity. You remain an original.

I think Cordillia might take the writer!

Yes, and thank you again.

I'm going for cremation, myself...

(There is a short, pithy Robert Frost poem I always think of when this subject comes up, starts "Some say the world will end in fire/Some in ice..." Can't post a link in comments, but it's easy to Google; title is "Fire and Ice".)

I shall go and reread GJ&RQ then. Not immediately (finishing a dissertation at the moment) but soonest!

But I don't promise to never ask again, either.

Lynn And, about those outtakes you mentioned to Miles. I'd bet they're great fun. Do you still have them???

Alas, there were no outtakes that I recall. I was just teasing Miles.

message 14: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Well, darn. I suppose Miles needed it, though.

message 15: by Brzk (new)

Brzk .. a recent reel depicted a certain book goblin who was accused of overspending from the family budget for ebook editions, then paperbacks and then special hardcover editions of the same books. The book goblin defended their need for the special editions with the argument that they are for the book goblin's funeral - in the form of a sea raft, for a pyre and for a worthy funeral with fire. Sounds like a very nice idea to me. Eccentric - certainly. A trifle vain, yes. Still nice.

message 16: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Nice, in a way, but I kind of boggle at burning books. In Ivan-speak, it seems just plain _wrong_. Heaven for me is the entire library (all the books from all time, even, translated where necessary), unlimited time to read, and proper reading snacks...

message 17: by Brzk (new)

Brzk ... closer to what Miles promised to Ky Tung once (minus the books) than a cremation though.

message 18: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Ah. I will have to go back and reread. It's been a while for me (doing a PhD in my "retirement"... Thank you.

message 19: by Brzk (new)

Brzk I think it's glory what they both (Tung and Miles) had in mind... Congratulations on your PhD!!

message 20: by Lynn (new)

Lynn Rereading this one, I wonder...Gregor interview? Aral? Simon? IVAN??? Oh, the possibilities...
