Oh god. "On Thursday, October 14 from 6:30-7:45 p.m. LOIS McMASTER BUJOLD reads from a new Penric story. The reading includes a free reception and autographing.".Not quite a heart attack, but a flutter for sure. Won't attend. It will be positively lovely.

Is this a reading from a new to US Penric story, as in the eleventh? Or a reading from the most recent Penric story, as in Assassins? In any case, I wish I could be there, but it is not possible. I hope those lucky folks who can attend enjoy very much.
I'd interpret "a new Penric story" to mean "a not-yet-published Penric story", but I suppose there are various possible interpretations.

I prefer to read from things my audience won't have already read, when I can.

The complete impossibility of attending aside, this is excellent news: it means there's another Penric in the works!Are there any plans to convey the reading electronically in some form? Streaming, recording?

Will this be an all ages type excerpt reading, or no? I have an 11yr old developing writer who might benefit from attending such an event so I wonder.

It's a not-quite murder mystery, what the ficcers are now calling a "casefic" and I would just call "a story".

If not, I recommend it. Most of them are novellas and quite easy reading. The first of them, "Penric's Demon", introduces the world and the characters, although Penric is only 19 then; in the latest stories he's in his early 30s and married.

If we are all trying to gain a glimpse in that fantastic future event, may I ask what does "a free reception" mean? Could it perchance imply a free access, not free dinner at which you are the main guest? A ball? No, don't tell me it's a glass offered at the door and some sandwiches, thank you. Argh. Either way it's impossible.

And a bunch of mostly local fans standing/sitting around in a too-small space talking for a bit.

iPort is an app available on the latest version of iPhone. Alas, it requires a 8g cell network, and the latest updates on both ends. Also, it is currently more expensive than a last minute firstclass flight, 5 start hotel suite, and all support expenses.
You have no idea how tempted I am to get in my car and drive seven hours for this. It was an honor to meet you at Uncle Hugo's a few years back.

I finished the first draft earlier this week, and Ron Miller is at work on an e-cover. 30k words before last revisions.
Still haven't finalized the title, though, a requirement for both Ron and me. Titles either come up and make themselves firmly known in the writing, or linger on elusively at the end. This is one of the latter. Current front runners are "Entanglements" or "Web of Sorrows", but something better may yet be lurking out there.

Sounds like we can expect this before Thanksgiving (in the US) with luck, certainly before Christmas. A nice ending to 2021. Looking forward to it, although the title ideas sound a bit depressing, hopefully some joy and laughter comes through in the end.

I ended up reading The Assassins of Thasalon over the weekend so I could attend without spoilers. I'm glad I did!
How I wish I could have been there. Glad you had a good time and acquired a treasure. Looking forward to the new Penric tale.
