IQ Tests and Intelligence

One of the most aggravating misconceptions I hear with regards to IQ tests is that just because someone has a high IQ test score, they must be intelligent.

Wrong.

To understand why that statement is wrong, you need to consider the direction of causality. Do IQ test scores cause intelligence or does intelligence cause IQ test scores? It should be obvious that the latter is the case. IQ test scores should be the result of intelligence, not the cause.
