The Creation of a Hero: Andor Katona

Some heroes come to me easily. They speak to me in a way which may sound crazy, unless you’re an author, but is true. When I say that they speak to me, I mean that I know what their voice is. I know if they’re calm or volatile. I know if they are old fashioned or modern. I have a clear idea of who they are and how they behave.
That doesn’t always happen right away though. Some heroes are stubborn. When you see me torture them a bit, it may be that I’ve been struggling with him and he won’t fall in line with what I want. Those are often the most surprising heroes in which people either totally love them, or they don’t.

description

I love them all. Those who cooperate and make my storytelling easy for me. And, those who fight me along the way, forcing me to bend to their will, or causing me to force them into compliance.

Andor was a joy to write. I was in the mood for someone romantic and deep, perhaps a little vulnerable so our heroine could come along and remind him that life is worth fighting for. There’s something about a hero who struggles and suffers, but who would dig deep within himself to protect the woman he loves and is willing to compromise in order to secure his woman’s happiness. Andor was that man.

You know from the first chapter that he is weary. Like all of the other ancients from the monastery, he didn’t believe suicide was the answer. To “meet the dawn” because he hadn’t yet found his lifemate and had become dangerous to others was the reason he’d gone to the monastery, but time and violence and a perpetual lack of hope had worn him down. So, when he’s attacked and about to die, he is ready to accept it. Dying while fighting evil was an honorable way to go. He’d put in his time, fought his battles, and now he just wanted a release from his suffering.

description

Then, in storms a woman waving a saucepan and looking to save his life and in an instant everything in his world changes. Fate, destiny, dumb luck, call it what you will, but in that final moment Andor sees his salvation. And he sees it in full color.

Centuries of turmoil, violence, anguish and torment couldn’t hold a candle to a single second filled with hope and love. Everything that had made him the fearless, dangerous warrior he’d been for all that time sparked back to life and he was once again a deadly predator. And a dark sentinel.

Marilyn Hahn Finished Dark Sentinel, and like always thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm waiting for Leopard's Ron & Vengeance Road. But I'm wondering what will be in the works for Genevieve, Gary, Sandu, Alfansiv, the five kids & other enjoyable characters. I particularly enjoy the way characters being carried over into other books. Also more Ghostwalkers.

Chandini Sewpershad took a day to read and i hate that i am done...i want more. loved it.

message 12: by Ruth Ellen (new)

Ruth Ellen i haven't enjoyed a read in so long. I really liked these characters and can not wait for their stories. I like Lorraine. She is very relatable. In love with the ancients. All of them. Bless their hearts.

Kristi Darrow I found myself trying to prolong reading Dark Sentinel. I love this series and hate finishing one and knowing I have to wait for the next one. I have re-read them all at least once. I can't wait for Ferro's story!

Lisa Pugh Love your description of Andor. That's exactly how I saw the first chapter as well. I haven't read the whole book, but the (unintentional? LOL!) comedy of their first meeting, with his lifemate barrelling out of the darkness and yelling at the attackers because she'd come into the mountains "to find a path of nonviolence. Peace, Love, [and] Embrace nature" whacking the men with her frying pan with each word left me rolling on the floor.

Was that too much of a spoiler? Sorry.

I try to prolong almost all of them. I prefer to read the Carpathian series in paperback, because I find reading on a Kindle too fast.

message 16: by Janice (new)

Janice I get the hardbacks, as soon As I find them.

message 17: by Adaiah (new)

Adaiah Dark Sentinel was a wonderful read! Very romantic with an unusual courtship between our h/h, while in danger from continue bombardment from the villains.

Sorry, that's not correct. Next year's Dark book is Dark Illusion. It's not Dark Devotion or Dark Devotional.

Diane, could you message me or just post here and let me know where you saw that? I think it's confusing people. Someone else told me this, too, but I didn't find out where she heard that information.

There isn't a book called Dark Devotional or Dark Devotion. It's Dark Illusion. I'm not sure where the other is coming from.

Judy I just read Dark Sentinel i loved it had to read it twice. Now i have to ask how long do i have to wait to buy the next book. Got a passion for reading love your books like, to them over and over its like visiting old friends.

message 29: by Judy (new)

Judy Really that would be awesome! That way she could be there for ferro's.

message 30: by Neetu (new)

Neetu Hamasaki Love your books. Wish for a Romance like that. Remember Genevieve from Dark Carosel? I want to hear her story. I thought her lifemate might be Gary as Gabrielle told him his lifemate was in France.
The only thing that turns me off of your books is the focus on children and kids, coming from someone who lost a child and can't stand to look or think about kids and will not have more. I'd like a female character that really does not want to have kids and makes sure she doesn't and is strong in sticking to that, even in the face of Mikhail and the worries of extinction. Nothing wrong with extinction anyway.

message 31: by Charlene (new)

Charlene I LOVE all of your books. The Dark Series was my introduction to your writing and I have everyone one of your books. My favorite series is, well ALL of them. I really liked the way you incorporated the Drake Sisters, Sea Haven and Torpedo Ink together.

The Ghostwalker series to me is a great Sci-Fi series.

The Leopard series is a cool way introduce were animals.

I know I will always read your books.
Thank you.
