Reaching out - spreading my wings

I don't know about you, but I am quite shy when it comes to meeting new people. I find it difficult to make light conversation with strangers and need a topic to focus on and hopefully, given time, I'll feel comfortable to move onto other subjects. Lately however, I have been stepping out of my comfort zone and meeting some rather nice people.
I met a charming and extremely talented illustrator - Alan Jones. We met in a small cafe in Mold, my nearest town, and had a most enjoyable couple of hours chatting about books, stories, illustrations, artwork and each other. He made it so easy - and I am hoping to work with him on my faerie stories later in the year. I have made a long and difficult decision and have decided to re-do Adventures of faerie folk, as individual books - like the 'Mr Men' books of old, to create a collection of stories to stimulate the imaginations of young children - from Annabelle and the Strawberry faerie, to William, the Walnut faerie and the bad troll! Watch this space.
I also travelled last week to Liverpool, in a hailstorm with thunder and lightening to set the scene - to a book reading/signing at WriteBlend book shop in Crosby.
Within minutes of arriving and shaking hailstones from out of my jumper, I was having a most pleasant introduction to the owner - Bob. Of course, I had my books with me, and he liked the look of them - so again, watch this space.
I, along with Fiona and Sue, listened to two authors talking about their books - Sally-Anne and Kate Ellis. I am now reading my signed copy from Kate - 'Unhallowed Grave' - good so far!
It was interesting and very nice, to be on the other end of this event. Having given readings and signings myself, the ladies gave me some idea's and it was lovely meeting them to chat. Also met another story-teller - Jude Lennon, who tells tales of dragons and faeries, so will have to meet again and pick her brains. Sadly, the one lady I had hoped to meet, Holly, was not there. I did see her fantastic artwork though on the walls of the bookshop. It has been a difficult decision to make as to who I should work with on my faerie stories. Both are so talented, it would be an honour to have both. (Think I'd better inform Alan my decision!!!!)
And so, as you can see, I have met so many people this last few weeks - and all are helpful, kind and talented. Sometimes it is worth staring fear in the face - and doing it anyway, as who knows where that path may lead!
Enjoy your own adventures.
Love and blessings
Paula

Rory Cj Good to hear and read this, Paula. It is always good to meet those of us, in the various stratas of Artistic Community for expanding our Creative purpose & Drive. Especially the kind of sharing, that leads to a generated Creative expression and sharing conceptual ideas of artistic process. Via attending the same venues, you yourself are self Marketing, in and through.

As an Author, it is a two stage creative process, of very different kinds of energy, and rewards. The inner drive of the Creative Process, drawn from deep in the Individual well. Then the second part is to establish a known readership, for your hard work. Both areas of writing require, contribution and collaboration. As a part of that essential inner and outer, Creative Process. The dynamics that create and generate, a successful career as a Writer, Storyteller, Novelist.

Really, the first part I know as an Author, is a solo endeavor. Maybe the most rewarding part, yet if your writing doesn't get circulated and an appreciation for your writing, develop. Is there a point to the exercise, other than fulfilling something in and for yourself? I've read Paula's writing, and found her stories, entertaining, well staged, and intriguing... very well written.

As Founder of Romonx Associated Artists, that is it's point and purpose, to add on to that second stage in the Internet Arena of Social and Market potentials, of Contribution & Collaboration with networks of Artistic Community. It is good to hear Paula's involvement in Local & Regional opportunities as such, and their importance in networking your works and talents. I'm happy Paula that your reworking some passed projects in Child Fantasy, and working with Illustrators. Also, to hear the excitement shared here, in knowing that networking is important and fulfilling, sharing with others. What you do, out of love for your Creativity, and that you sharing and dedication to your craft. Really is an inspiration to us all in the Arts ~ Paula Roscoe...
