Why Are You Apologizing For Existing?

Recently a Twitter friend of mine asked me a question that stopped a negative perspectives on it’s tracks.

I was apologizing for not sending over some information based on a tweet she made and battling the creeping imposter syndrome feeling of not being good enough.

Next thing I know, she asks me, “Why are you apologizing?!”

My response was literally, “Honestly, I don’t know and now you’ve made me realize I’ve probably been apologizing for existing.”

Truth is that subconsciously I was feeling...

International Podcast Day 2019

Podcasting is growing at a much faster rate than when it was originally introduced back in the 1980’s, to the point we now have a whole International Podcast day to celebrate.

Today there are over 700,000 active podcasts and more than 29 million podcast episodes according to the research done by companies like Nielsen and Edison.

Podcasting originally started in the 1980's and was originally called audioblogging

What we know as podcasting today was known back then as “audioblogging” in a similar fashion to loading audio onto a USB drive, Radio Computing Services (RCS) were...

Action vs Intellect

When it comes to action versus intellect, which one is winning in your life?

You can have all of the knowledge in this world, even the ability to predict the future but if you do nothing with it, what’s that knowledge really worth?

We’re in an age where everyone wants to be a star and a few are about the execution.

The greats we from history that we often put on a pedestal, as flawed as they may be were individuals that focused on action.

Time to throw away the excuses and embrace the obstacl...

The Pivotal Point

So, here we are, less than 100 days from now marks a very pivotal point in history.

You see, it’ll be 2020 next year.

Up until this point, we’ve really only scratched the surface of the 21st century.

It’s been a wild ride since Y2K, the year 2000 and all of the joys that came after that.

However, there’s one thing missing.

We really haven’t looked at just how important it is.

Within this new age of work, the new age of education, the new age of family, friends and relationships.

We haven’t ta...

Design Thinking and Change Making With The AIGA

It’s always a joy to talk about anything design related. Especially when it’s design thinking.

But to talk about design thinking with your local AIGA chapter and a room filled with passionate creatives and nonprofits? Priceless.

However, before I get into all the juicy details of what went down, let’s take a look at what design thinking actually is.

It’s certainly a pretty hot buzzword and one many often hide behind in an attempt to appear smart.

Currently sitting in the middle of classica...

Badmind & Grudgeful Folk

One of the things I love about my Jamaican heritage is learning about all these words and phrases geared towards living a life of excellence. Two words that are often phrases in themselves are badmind and grudgeful.

Badmind & Grudgeful Folk definition graphic

Meaning, people who have bad intentions and carry them around wherever they go. To the point it infects everything they say and do.

Which brings us to the importance of taking the high road in all you do.

Always be transparent in your dealings as an entrepreneur, creative, heck...

Bust a 180

I’m always amused by the people who say you need to make a 360 change.

So for me as I chuckle and think to myself, “but don’t you mean a 180?”

Why would anyone want to turn around only to arrive back at the same place they started?

True change happens when you stop going down the path that yields average.

The one you’re unhappy with, that when you really think about it, you realize just what your brand values happen to be.

For life is an exploration.

Business is where the passion of that ex...

Turn Over The Right Stones

Curiosity isn’t about aimlessly wandering around hoping to bump into inspiration.

If anything it’s about finding the right stones to turn over.

As Seth Godin points out, “Pick the right stones and cherish them as you turn them over.”

The key isn’t to pursue quantity but an in-depth appreciation for quality.

Otherwise an overabundance of anything often leads to waste.

The efforts of today compound over time when done with consistency.

So bring your heart and fill it with quality.

Anything...

Go Ahead, Disrespect The Process

If you’re making a cake, you don’t start by decorating it with icing.

If you’re constructing a house, you don’t start by putting in windows and doors before the foundation and frame of the building.

It’s easy to lose focus on the important things.

It’s even easier to get caught up in trying to please others.

However, both of these things will often take you farther from where you need to be.

The smart thing to do is to respect the process.

When you do, you’ll be able to be proactive and make...

When Will You?

What’s it going to take, more specifically, when will it be when you start standing up for yourself?

When will you realize that this thing called life can’t be played as an observer? No matter how hard you may try.

When will you learn that all the ways you try to numb the pain won’t truly make it go away?

When will you stop checking your phone and start checking in on your goals?

When will you stop using the past as an excuse and start leveraging it as fuel?

When will you stop letting the “fa...
