WARW: Sleeping Queens
(WARW (Write a Review Wednesday) is something I started because I have a habit of putting off writing reviews. As an author, I know how important reviews are for the success of a book, so I’m making a concerted effort to write at least one review a week. Reviews might not always be about books–they could be about games, podcasts, online classes, etc–and I’d love it if you guys linked to one of your reviews (of whatever you want) in the comments. If you want to see all my WARW reviews, click W...

Write a Review Wednesday: A Promise of Fire
Confession: even though I ask readers to leave reviews for my books and appreciate every single one, I’m TERRIBLEat writing reviews myself.
I know! Horrible, right? I just realized this the other day when I looked at Goodreads and saw how far behind I am on my 2016 Reading Goal. I’m not really THAT far behind; I just haven’t reviewed any books in months.
So I’m beginning a weekly blog feature to remedy that. I’m calling it Write a Review Wednesday. WARW for short, which I’m thinking is pronou...

Catching up
I just spent an hour and forty-five minutes at my kids’ school tearing pages out of workbooks.
An hour and forty-five minutes! Non-stop tearing and sorting. My back is totally killing me–just popped a couple of ibuprofen–but I’m so glad I could help out. That’s a ton of time consuming work for teachers to do, and there’s no way the little Kindergartners could find the right pages on their own, let alone tear them out.
I’m going to try to help out more. It’s kind of funny. My mom, who taught f...

About that Summer, Self-Improvement, and New Cover Art! (September Update!)
About that Summer: Well, the minions were home with me full-time this summer for the first time since they were born. I knew it would be tough–I’m so not a kid entertainer–but we made it through it. Actually, it went kind of quickly except for the fact that I was dying to write. I think I mentioned it in my last update, but the second anomaly novel was soooooo close to being finished. I needed one solid week, maybe two to get the final revisions done, and then I could send it off to the copy...

June Updatery
(Quick note: the blog post below is full of lots of mistakes. You’ll see why as you read on, but I don’t want to make changes. I want to see if the accuracy of my posts increase over the summer. So I’m typing this part as a head’s up. And also I’m admitting that I fixed “T-Minus 2 days” and “Aren POV” because they were driving me crazy and I hadn’t yet decided to leave the errors in this post. But if you guys are totally confused on something and want me to clarify, let me know in the comment...

Book rec and new author alert!
Over the weekend, I read PIRATE BOUND by new author Carysa Locke, and I LOVED it. I did my whole I-found-a-new-sci-fi-author-to-love happy dance, something that I honestly don’t do too much in this genre (I’m very, very picky.)
But I was also super happy for another reason. Way back when I first started being a “serious” author, I stumbled upon Carysa on…. I think Livejournal? Yeah, it was that long ago. Anyway, I was writing the shadow reader series at the time, but I also had Shades of Trea...

Unblogging, Writing the Words, and I’m not a Biker (November 2016 update)
Unblogging: I’ve made the decision not to blog. That’s kind of funny considering here I am, posting something to my, um, blog, but I’ve been battling with the to-blog or not-to-blog decision for years. I WANT to blog, but it never happens. I can’t consistently do it even once a week. So instead, I’m posting long monthly updates. If you want shorter, more real-time conversation, you can check out my Facebook Page. Despite FB’s annoying lack-of-reach algorithm thingy, I like the platform. I lov...

Drugs, Habits, and Movies
Drugs: Sorry (again!) for the long silence, but it’s been a rough couple of months. I finally got in to see a new neurologist, had an EEG–that test where they put electrodes on your head then flash lights in your eyes–and apparently I had multiple complex seizures during that time. Not like convulsing seizures. Best I could describe it was that I felt like I do right before I faint. Fast forward a week, and I had my follow up appointment with the neurologist. It went exactly like this:
Neuro:...

I broke my face, Upgrading, and Happy Labor Day!
(Sorry, this post got kind of long and medical-y. Wasn’t sure I had the energy in me to type at all, but maybe this is a good sign that I can get some real writing done tomorrow.)
I broke my faceYes, literally. Early last Monday, I got out of bed and went to the kitchen. My stomach was sort of bothering me, and my husband was sick, so I had the thought that maybe I should go on to the other bathroom just to make sure I wasn’t getting sick too. I never made it there. I woke up face first on th...
