A Friday/Saturday MeMe Mashup…

I've got another thing going on this weekend so I may or may not be around.  Just in case… a MeMe mashup.  I'm mashing my Friday 56 up with my Saturday Snippets.

So from page 56 of my current WIP…*G* Book 3 in my RS trilogy…

"Something…shit.  I don't know, it's like there are pieces missing from the puzzle and until I've got those pieces, I can't find whatever so-called closure I'm supposed to find to get on with my life."

And because I can already hear people gnashing their teeth, here's a...

New Cover Alert…

Rapunzel, Rapunzel…let down your long hair…

Although that's not quite how this story is going to go.  But it's a Grimm.  What do you expect?

will be out in ebook in October.  Out in print possibly the latter half of 2011, not sure yet.

Lou-ah-ville's Best

yay caturday

see more Lolcats and funny pictures

(I know the Caturday thing doesn't work-but…um…the image is funny, so I'm going with it)

Apparently a local Louisville mag has trademarked the phrase **** of Louisville.  Meaning others can't use it anymore.  Gasp!  Well, if they were going to trademark something maybe they should have trademarked something a little less generic than **** of LOUISVILLE

Just sub in the word  B    E   S    T     for ****  (yeah, I'm being deliberately silly here, because I...

An Indicator You're Getting Bad Writing Advice

image via Icanhascheezburger

Want to know if you're being given bad writing advice?

Here's how you can tell.

If you're being told/implied/led to believe that there is one set way (aside from things like following submission guidelines-those you need to listen to) to do things.

Things like

You have to plot your book out in advanceYou have to learn to write a synopsis in advanceYou can' t change POV in the middle of a sceneYou're not allowed to do thisYou're not allowed to do thatYadda yadda yadda...

Worldbuilding 101

Please note…I'm probably still whining about pain and being miserable, and yes, possibly milking things for all they are worth-I don't do pain well.  In other words-I won't be online for a few more days, so don't be surprised if I'm not really answering Qs or commenting…sorry!

When I was at Nationals, I was doing this thing with Angela Knight and Michelle Rowen.  We got to talking about our respective paranormal worlds and how things work and I mentioned that generally, I try to make things...

A belated winner…

Hey guys… Carly Phillips has a winner for us from when she guest blogged and that winner is…

Mireyah Wolfe.

As I'm away from my PC and probably whining at this very moment, I went ahead and contacted Mireyah-I knew I wouldn't feel up to answering email when the winning post went up.

This is where the 'I reserve the right to modify the rules' part comes in handy. ;o)

Thanks again to Carly for guest blogging and thanks to all of you who dropped by!

Saturday Snippets… Jesse's Girl

This will be in January, I think, from Samhain

"Jesse's back in town."

Those words, once upon a time, might have toppled the very foundation of her world.

Once upon a time…thirteen, fourteen years ago.

But Zoe Childers didn't believe in fairy tales anymore.

Glancing up at Beth, she cocked a brow. "Is he?"  Then she focused on the glass cabinet and finished wiping it down.   Damned fingerprints.  She couldn't keep them off.

"Yeah."  Beth leaned on the counter and sighed, a familiar look in her...

Friday 56… and a note… in case I'm MIA…

First, in case I'm MIA for a few days on twitter, here at the blog…I have to have minor surgery today.  Normally, I don't post these sort of things, but I've got a few people that I know will get antsy if I'm not around and instead of worrying about keeping up with email, the blog, twitter… I'd rather just post here.

It's nothing major, I promise.   And while I appreciate the thought, please don't feel inclined to email me with get well wishes…I know that sounds awful, and I'm sorry.  But...

Thursday Tips…BAD Reviews

Thursday Tips are geared toward the newly published/contracted writer

BAD Reviews

Here's the deal.

You will get them.  They are a fact of life.  It is impossible to please everybody and if you expect to never get a bad review, in effect, what you are expecting is to please everybody.

Now I realize this is probably a little easier for me to say than some—I'm one of those people who have gone through life fully aware of the fact that I can rub a lot of people the wrong way and while I'm sorry...

Are Publishers Still Acquiring New Authors

On the way home from RWA10, I saw that an Ask Agent twitter chat was going on.  (It's exactly like it sounds-agents volunteer to answer industry questions-industry Qs, not related to query or proposal stuff).

One of the questions was along the lines of:

Do you think publishers will continue to buy from first time authors…

Okay, I'm going to try not to be sarcastic or rude here, really.  But my instinctive response, any time I see this sort of question?

Oh, puh-leeze…

People.  Yes, publishers are g...
