An RWA recap

Sorry…no pics to post. I had my camera, but just never thought to take it out. O.o

So, on Nationals.

We spent two days at Disney so when we checked into the Dolphin on Tuesday, I was dragging already. But hey, it's Disney.

Wednesday, what did I do Wednesday…I registered, hung with friends, had lunch, hung with friends, did the massive booksigning and for an entertaining glimpse at that? Here…

Then I think that was the night that I went to the karaoke bar with Sylvia Day because I was...

When people don't like your characters

So your book is done, it's published, people are reading it, most of them are liking it (hopefully).

But then somebody hates your character.  Hates.  Abhors.

We'll say it's the heroine, because usually that's who it is for me.  Either she didn't see the bad crap soon enough, or she had too many problems, or she didn't think about all the things going wrong, maybe she didn't take the bad stuff seriously enough or….they just couldn't connect with her.

What then?

Does that mean you did your job...

So… anybody got any questions? Series stuff?  Previous books?  Writing stuff? Although I suck royally at that sort of thing.  I can't promise I'll get in there to answer today, but I'll check in and answer as I can later, and if the questions are the sort that might make me think, I may use them for blog post fodder, just so ya know.

Thursday Tips…Reviews

Thursday Tips are geared toward the newly published/newly contracted writer.

Reviews

As release date draws closer, you might have people contacting you about reviews, especially if you're already have a fairly visible presence online.

I'll be honest—I don't do handle review requests anymore.  There are too many review sites and I can't keep up with them.  My standard line is posted to my website, in the FAQ section:

I'm a reviewer and would like to review your books.  Can I contact you?

Aside...

City of Ghosts

FYI…I'm out of town, in Orlando at RWA yearly conference…questions and stuff will be addressed  (probably) will I'm back.

So today, I'm going to wax poetically about a fabulous book by a fabulous author, Stacia Kane.

Actually, no, I'm just going to tell you it's awesome. But read the first two books first. , Unholy Ghosts and Unholy Magic.  City of Ghosts is out.  Go buy the first two, read them.  Then this one.  And I know it's sounds fricking weird…I mean, the heroine is a drug addict...

Guest Blogger….Carly Phillips…contest…

And this is like… wow.  Carly Phillips is at my blog!!! Okay, pull it together…ahem.

Carrying on, turning it over to Carly…

Family.  Can't live with 'em … can't live without them … even if sometimes we'd like to.  KISS ME IF YOU CAN, in stores 7/27, is at its heart, about family.  Let's face it.  Everyone has family or close friends who are just … somewhat off.  Eccentric.  Okay let's say it: Odd.

There are the oddball relatives we adore (like my heroine, Lexie, and her Grandma Charlotte...

Words I Fear

Yes.  There are words that strike fear into my writer's heart.

Why?  I mean, they are just words.  They mean as much or as little as I let them, right?

Unless they are words like…

audit… (self explanatory)taxes… (self explanatory)synopsis (choke… I'm not organized by nature…knowing this, that should be self explanatory)promo (okay, this doesn't strike fear into the heart of me.  Just loathing.  I hate promo.  But it's a necessary evil.)head shot (if you've been hanging around my blog long?  You...
