Hello! Thank you for this opportunity to talk about the Coming in Hot Boxed Set which includes my steamy short story Blood Bio-Med. I can’t wait to help my readers get to know me better!
 
Tell us about your title featured in this set:
Blood Bio-Med was a bit difficult for me to write as I had never written a medical piece before. But I had lots of help from the other authors in the set, answering any questions I had and all that jazz. The title was actually a fellow author’s idea as I was drawing a blank as to what this piece should be titled. That’s one of the amazing things about working in a box set with other authors. There is always someone there to help you if you need it. This piece actually took me a little longer than most of my work due to be slightly out of my comfort zone ;-)

Tell us something about yourself: I’m a 38 year old housewife with five kids and an amazingly patient and understanding husband. It is a bit difficult to write during the summer as all the kids are home but that would be where the amazingly patient and understanding hubby comes in (Where you are from, where you live now, note your degrees, significant relationships, as little or as much as you want).

Tell us about your writing process: I get most of my inspiration from pictures I have seen; though that is by no means the only way I get my inspiration. I LOVE to write about things that haven’t been written about much, if at all. My thing is shifters that turn into animals I have never even heard of until I do my research (and I do A LOT of research for any of my work). Sometimes I do research WHILE writing the piece depending on what the piece is about. This piece consisted of lots of research before and during the writing of it.

What is your favourite genre to read? I love all genres but I will always reach for the romance novels first.

What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about? Ending cruelty to animals and children. I have been doing all that is in my power to do this.
When you are not writing, what do you like to do? Read, color (yup color lol), dance, sing, draw. Spend time with the hubby and kiddos. 

If someone who hasn’t read any your books asked you to describe your story in this set (the elevator pitch!) what would you say? This piece is about a young doctor, who happens to be a shifter, that has been trying to find out what makes supernatural beings different than human beings. She is very passionate about discovering this huge secret and when she is asked to become part of a medical team that is doing just that she couldn’t be more thrilled. She discovers romance along the way with another shifter on the team of six as well as strife. There is a huge love triangle with Aleah being in love with Wyatt while Wyatt is in love with her (the ultimate doctor couple) and a fellow team member, William, wanting Aleah all for herself.

Thank you so much for having me! It’s been a blast telling everyone about myself and Blood Bio-Med, my contribution to the Coming in Hot Boxed Set!


     
The day after the phone call found Aleah in the waiting room of the fifth floor of New Hope Hospital anxiously waiting for Dr. Morgan to make an appearance and explain what it was he needed from her. She remembered taking a seat closest to the door she had entered and looking around the room, noticing there were four other people sitting in the room with her. Every one of them seemed to be feeling the same mix of emotions that she was: anxiety and nerves. Her palms were sweating as she watched two of the four people in the room fidget in their seats. A third person stood and began pacing the length of the small room, long strides eating up the carpet in his need to calm his nerves. The fourth person, a woman, was taking deep breaths as she slowly rocked with her eyes closed.

     They stood in unison, with the exception of the man who was already standing, as a six foot one, silver haired older man walked into the waiting room.

     The Director of Supernatural Bio-Medicine smiled at each of them in turn, “Hello fellow doctors. If you would just follow me, please.”

     He turned and led the way down a small hallway, stopping in front of one of the closed doors then ushering the five of them into one of the conference rooms and waited until they were all seated to begin what could only be called a presentation.

     Dr. Morgan began by telling them the reason they were called together then introduced them all by their specialties, “I’m glad to see that almost all of you were able to be here. There was to be one more of you, but it seems he’s not going to make it. Shall we get started?”

      Everyone nodded their agreement and waited to hear what the doctor was going to say next.

     “Without further ado, allow me to tell you why you’re here. I have hand-picked each of you for your specialties and your reputations in those specialties. As you may already know, this hospital has allowed for a new type of study to be conducted in honor of the paranormal being outed. That study is Supernatural Bio-Medicine and they have appointed me the Director. Now the reason you five have been called is so we can appease the humans, and to make sure that the supernaturals are receiving the proper care. In order to do that I have need of a team. Before I get into all of the details concerning that let me introduce each of you. It might make things a little clearer for all involved.”

     Dr. Morgan placed his hands on the conference table and leaned closer to the young doctors eager to be on his team, “Mr. Alfred Barstow here will be our Rheumatologist making sure that, should the need arise, we are able to help all paranormal beings with any joint, muscular and skeletal issues. He will also be helping aide in the study of these areas so that we can continue to learn everything we can about all paranormal beings and help the humans to understand that knowledge as well.”

     Aleah remembered her attention had been drawn from the doctor to a tall, dark skinned man with a crew cut and easy smile to her left as he stood and waved, “Hello everyone.”

     As Alfred returned to his seat Dr. Morgan turned his attention to a petite, light skinned woman with wavy blonde, shoulder length hair and a slightly upturned nose, “Ms. Deanna Bates came highly recommended for our Immunologist to aide us in helping those supernaturals with severe allergies. Of course we also need to study this area of medicine to discover how supernatural beings can have allergies, but that is a discussion for another time.”

     The woman in question had her turn of standing and addressing everyone in the room, “Happy to be here.”

     Dr. Morgan watched as Deanna returned to her seat then continued to introduce the final members in the room, “This is Mr. Wyatt Masterson and he will be our Endocrinologist helping us study the glands and hormones of all the supernatural community. We might be comparing these areas of the body with the humans to see what makes us so different from them.”

     There was a collective gasp that had the Director holding his hand up, “There’s no need for you to be alarmed as I assure you that there will be no white room with bright lights and no paranormals being tied down to a sterile table for these studies. No giant microscope watching your every move. This is merely a way to show the humans how safe we are, how they won’t ‘catch what we have’ and become supernatural themselves; that we are a unique case as stated six months ago.”

     The room let out a sigh of relief as a whole, and the man who had been introduced before the bombshell of studying their own had been dropped gave a slow blink. Aleah remembered how her attraction to him was almost instantaneous. She watched as he stood in one lithe movement and took in his appearance. He had milky white skin, shocking white shaggy hair and stunning pale blue eyes. Her heart began to race as his eyes met hers and he licked his lips, getting ready to speak.

     “Hi! Hey! Sorry I’m so late. Traffic was horrible!”

     A man in his late thirties came rushing into the room, interrupting the Endocrinologist and jerking Aleah’s attention to the door. His short sandy blonde hair was sticking up in all directions and his clothes were rumpled, giving her the impression that he had just rolled out of bed. His deep tan showed that he wasn’t afraid to be in the sun, but the way he moved through the room set Aleah’s teeth on edge. She’d never met someone that made her go on the defensive just by the way they looked but that was exactly how she had felt the minute her gaze fell upon him.

Ugly. Freak. Fatty.  I had been called those things and more for as long as I could remember.  I didn’t mind it, though, because to the outside world, those words described me perfectly.  But it was all a charade, a façade to keep people away.  Never let anyone get too close.  It had worked for twelve years of my life, ever since I caused my father’s death.
And then Carter Anderson pushed his way into my world.  Gorgeous, of course, charming, naturally, and cocky, a given—he called himself my friend and broke through every one of my carefully constructed walls.
Cue the “happily ever after,” right?  Wrong.
This isn’t some fairy tale where the ugly duckling turns into a beautiful swan, and once the beauty beneath is revealed, all is right in the world.  This is real life.  When things seem too good to be true, it’s because they usually are.  And when people say your past will come back to bite you, they mean it.  And trust me, it does.

DC Renee has been writing all her life, from cheesy poems in elementary school (i'll share an example just so you know how cheesy: Flowers are my favorite thing; they usually bloom during spring. Pink, blue, yellow and green, so many colors that I have seen...etc.) to short stories and monologues, and eventually fan fictions for Days of Our Lives.

It was thanks to that superbly encouraging fan fiction community that DC found the courage to publish her first book - Let Me Go. It held fast in the top 100 Best Selling Contemporary Romance Fiction Novels on Amazon for over a month, going as low as the top 20's. Naturally, she loves to read, but she also likes watching hockey, dancing for fun, and loves her family.

Hello! Thank you for this opportunity to talk about my newest release BAD MEDICINE, Book 4 of the Wild Love Series, featured in the COMING IN HOT Anthology! I’m so excited to share more about this book, the anthology, and even titbits about myself!

Tell us about your title featured in this set:  BAD MEDICINE is Book 4 of the Wild Love Series, which, although it is a series, each book is a stand-alone. I can write pretty quickly and wrote it in about three weeks. However, it’s the editing that always takes the longest with my own revisions, the back-and-forth between a beloved critique buddy of mine then the back-and-forth between my editor and me, polishing, moving on to my proofer, and polishing some more. My editing process takes anywhere between a month to two months. Oh, and the title...Hee-hee! I asked the other members of the anthology what they thought and we all agreed to BAD MEDICINE! 

Tell us something about yourself. Hmm, where to start? Well, I was born in Montana, but as soon as I turned eighteen I wanted to move away, so I did. I’ve lived in a lot of places during my early twenties, mostly in the South. But something kept calling me back home. Eventually, I moved back to Montana to be closer to family, met a special fella, and, well, the rest is history as they say. I love learning and have tried to continue my education with now one Master’s Degree in US Military history and several certificates—including fitness instructing to grammar to coding to you name it. But my best teacher of all is my thirteen-year-old son, wise beyond his years. I’m the luckiest mom in the world!

Tell us about your writing process. It depends on the book. But most often an idea comes, then a few scenes, then the character “talks” to me. I know. That sounds goofy, but I’ll have days where a certain character become so clear to me it’s as if he or she is really talking to me, telling me about their background, their goals, what motivates them, everything. After a few days to months of this, I plot his or her story. Then I write it furiously down. As I mentioned above, it’s the editing that takes me the longest, and by the time I’m done, the character is done talking to me, letting another enter my mind. J

What is your favourite genre to read? Romance and almost anything non-fiction.
What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about? Being a good mother. I want to be a good partner, friend, sister and writer, but every day I try so hard to be a good mom to my wonderful boy.

When you are not writing, what do you like to do? I like reading, hiking, taking pictures on my hikes, cooking, baking, playing games with the fam...gosh, so much! There’s no shortage of fun things to do. J
If someone who hasn’t read any your books asked you to describe your story in this set (the elevator pitch!) what would you say? Nurse Ian Ryder and Dr. Asha Whitetail make the deal of a lifetime. She wants to get rid of her V-card; he wants her heart. Who will win?

     Everything in my body lights up. It’s as if every damned atom is responding to what she just said, as if I’ve never been fully alive until this very second. I’m also very hot suddenly. Too damned hot. I’m molten and scared I’ll burn her hand that’s on me.

     I want to ask if she means kissing me, but I won’t. I want her to be talking about kissing me. Only me. I want it so bad I stop rationalizing. I stop thinking. I stop everything and just react.

     Placing a hand on the stored sanitizers behind her and one on her hip, I cage her in, not about to let her rethink what she’s just said.

     She can push me away, and I’ll stop and probably be embarrassed as hell, but I’m going in.

Hello! Thank you for this opportunity to talk about my newest release BAD MEDICINE, Book 4 of the Wild Love Series, featured in the COMING IN HOT Anthology! I’m so excited to share more about this book, the anthology, and even titbits about myself!

Tell us about your title featured in this set:  BAD MEDICINE is Book 4 of the Wild Love Series, which, although it is a series, each book is a stand-alone. I can write pretty quickly and wrote it in about three weeks. However, it’s the editing that always takes the longest with my own revisions, the back-and-forth between a beloved critique buddy of mine then the back-and-forth between my editor and me, polishing, moving on to my proofer, and polishing some more. My editing process takes anywhere between a month to two months. Oh, and the title...Hee-hee! I asked the other members of the anthology what they thought and we all agreed to BAD MEDICINE! 

Tell us something about yourself. Hmm, where to start? Well, I was born in Montana, but as soon as I turned eighteen I wanted to move away, so I did. I’ve lived in a lot of places during my early twenties, mostly in the South. But something kept calling me back home. Eventually, I moved back to Montana to be closer to family, met a special fella, and, well, the rest is history as they say. I love learning and have tried to continue my education with now one Master’s Degree in US Military history and several certificates—including fitness instructing to grammar to coding to you name it. But my best teacher of all is my thirteen-year-old son, wise beyond his years. I’m the luckiest mom in the world!

Tell us about your writing process. It depends on the book. But most often an idea comes, then a few scenes, then the character “talks” to me. I know. That sounds goofy, but I’ll have days where a certain character become so clear to me it’s as if he or she is really talking to me, telling me about their background, their goals, what motivates them, everything. After a few days to months of this, I plot his or her story. Then I write it furiously down. As I mentioned above, it’s the editing that takes me the longest, and by the time I’m done, the character is done talking to me, letting another enter my mind. J

What is your favourite genre to read? Romance and almost anything non-fiction.
What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about? Being a good mother. I want to be a good partner, friend, sister and writer, but every day I try so hard to be a good mom to my wonderful boy.

When you are not writing, what do you like to do? I like reading, hiking, taking pictures on my hikes, cooking, baking, playing games with the fam...gosh, so much! There’s no shortage of fun things to do. J
If someone who hasn’t read any your books asked you to describe your story in this set (the elevator pitch!) what would you say? Nurse Ian Ryder and Dr. Asha Whitetail make the deal of a lifetime. She wants to get rid of her V-card; he wants her heart. Who will win?

     Everything in my body lights up. It’s as if every damned atom is responding to what she just said, as if I’ve never been fully alive until this very second. I’m also very hot suddenly. Too damned hot. I’m molten and scared I’ll burn her hand that’s on me.

Hello—thank you so much for stopping by. I’m so excited to share a little bit about myself and my story in the Coming In Hot boxed set! 
Tell us about your title featured in this set: 
My story is called On Her High Horse, and is set in the Yorkshire Dales, in England. It’s an enemies-to-lovers story about a young vet and one of his clients.

Once I got going, it probably only took me a couple of weeks to write (I don’t write full time, so I have to squeeze my writing in around everything else I do to earn a living!).

The title was actually a complete nightmare to come up with! Sometimes titles come to me before I even write a story, and other times they pop up while I’m writing. This one eluded me for a long time. I was Googling horsey phrases and veterinary phrases for ages, until I finally came up with this—and it fits the story really well, I think. So it was worth waiting for! 

Tell us something about yourself: I’m from Derbyshire, in England, where I still live with my dog, Scamp. As I mentioned before, I don’t write full time—I actually do lots of little jobs which make up a full time job; writing, marketing, editing, PR, web design, formatting, etc… basically, I eat, sleep and breathe books in one way or another, so it’s pretty awesome. I love being my own boss. I love spending time out in the countryside with my other half and my dog, reading (of course), films, and travelling.

Tell us about your writing process: It varies massively depending on what I’m writing. For novel length work, I do tend to have some kind of plan, or at the very least an outline, in place. But for short stories and novellas, I tend to just write and see where the characters take me. I write as and when I can, juggling it around everything else I do. The benefit of being my own boss is I can move projects around if I need to—as long as I meet all the deadlines, it’s all good! ;)

What is your favourite genre to read?I don’t have one, really. I like reading different kinds of books—as long as there’s a gripping story, I’m happy.
What would you say is the one thing you are most passionate about? The people I care about.

There was a knock at the door. Brett looked up from where he was transferring hand-written notes onto the practice’s computer system—he hadn’t yet gotten comfortable with taking the iPad out on calls. He was paranoid he’d drop it in a cow pat, or worse. “Yes, come in!”

     One of the veterinary surgery’s receptionists—an efficient blonde called Natasha—sidled in, a wry expression on her face. “Hi, Brett. I’m really sorry to bother you, but there’s a woman on the phone, and she’s being, um, rather rude.”

     Frowning, Brett replied, “Who is it? And why is she being rude?”

     Natasha blew out a breath and shrugged. “She won’t tell me what the issue is. Won’t even tell me what animal she has. She just keeps saying she’ll only speak to a ‘trained professional.’ I don’t know who it is, either, not really. All I know is her first name is—”

     “Samantha?” Brett supplied, his shoulders slumping and eyebrows raising.

     “Uh, yeah. How did you know? Oh God, I haven’t gone and insulted one of your friends or something, have I? I didn’t mean to, honestly. It’s just she’s being a bit difficult…”

     “Natasha, don’t panic. She’s no friend of mine. I’ve never even met the woman. Besides, if she was one of my friends, I’d be giving her a bollocking for being rude to one my staff, wouldn’t I? Anyway, if it’s the Samantha I think it is, then she’s being very difficult, and you’re being overly polite. Andrew warned me about her.”

     “He did?”

     “Yeah. Bloody typical that she’d phone while he’s away. The man barely ever takes a holiday, and now he finally has, his most awkward client is on the blower. He damn well owes me one after this.”

     “If she’s a regular client, how come I’ve never spoken to her before?”

     Shrugging, Brett replied, “Dunno. Maybe she’s got Andrew’s mobile number, or something?”

     Natasha gasped. “But he never gives out his mobile number to clients. He’s very strict about that—always asks us to take a message and if it’s urgent, pass it on to him directly.”

     “Yeah…” Brett scratched his head. “He didn’t say much about her, beyond that she can be difficult. Honestly, I was a bit distracted when he mentioned it so I wasn’t paying a great deal of attention. I wish I’d asked more questions now, but I never actually thought I’d have the misfortune of having to deal with her.”

     “You haven’t, yet.” Natasha raised her eyebrows and pointed with her chin towards the phone on his desk.

     “Good point.” He gave a wan smile. “Suppose I’d better find out what she wants, hadn’t I? If she’s special enough to have Andrew’s precious mobile phone number, then I probably ought to keep her sweet.”

     “Probably wise.” Natasha left the room, closing the door behind her, but not before Brett spotted the slight smile on her face. Relieved to pass on the bitchy customer to him, no doubt.

     Taking a deep breath, he picked up the phone. “Hello, Brett Coulson speaking, how can I help?”

     “Oh,” came the reply, “Brett. Ah yes, you’re the other vet, aren’t you? Jolly good. Know what you’re talking about, do you?” The woman’s accent was posh, southern. Like she’d been to a finishing school or something.

     Gritting his teeth, Brett then pasted a smile on his face, hoping it would be apparent in his tone, despite the daggers he was actually staring at her through the handset. “Yes, I most certainly do.” Should fucking do, after five years of training and the same again working in the profession. I’m not on bloody work experience here.

     “But you sound so young.”

     Glad she couldn’t see him, Brett rolled his eyes. Her problem obviously wasn’t an emergency, the way she was waffling on, time-wasting. “I’m almost twenty-nine, Mrs…”

     “It’s Ms, actually. Samantha Hanson-Bishop here. So you’re still a baby then, really.”

     “Is there something I can help you with, Ms Hanson-Bishop? Only I’ve a call to go out on in a few minutes.” He couldn’t help the emphasis he’d put on the Ms. It could be construed as sarcastic, but it was still a damn sight more polite than anything he really wanted to say. Would she just get to the point already?

He clung to my shirt, his knuckles turning white. “Make it s-stop.” 
“I…I don’t know how.”
Fuck this. Fuck heroin. Why the hell would someone do this to themselves? I’d never seen this level of pain before that hadn’t resulted in death, and even that was only on TV. 
Dylan sobbed into my chest and I held him while he did. My arms were all I had to offer. He remained so cold despite my palms rubbing up and down his back, and he was dirty, too - dried up vomit sticking to his skin and hair. I’d never felt so helpless in all my life.
Needing to do something, anything, I climbed to my feet, lifting his body with me. “Come on,” I encouraged, struggling to take his weight on my own. “Try and walk for me.”
He whimpered and mumbled but made little effort to move. So, sliding one arm behind his thighs, I scooped him up like a baby, carrying him towards the bath. He clung to my neck, his grip weak, while I turned on the water. I turned the temperature down to barely warm, worried the heat might burn his shivering skin, before lowering him into the bathtub, under the fine spray of the shower. 
His muscles twitched and his eyes closed as he hugged his knees to his scrawny chest. Taking a sponge and some shower-gel, I scrubbed softly up and down his trembling body, gently manoeuvring his arms and legs when needed so I could clean every inch of him.
“I’m tired, Cam,” he barely whispered, dropping his head to the side.
My heart ached, like it was trapped inside a vice that was trying to crush its ability to beat, as I lathered some shampoo into his fair hair. “You can sleep soon. Nearly done.” 
I tried not to cry as I massaged his scalp. I wanted to be strong, but I’d never felt more vulnerable. Removing the showerhead from the hook on the wall, I hovered it over his head, rinsing away the tea-tree scented suds, before doing the same to the rest of his skin. After shutting the water off, I grabbed a large towel from the heated rail next to the toilet and rubbed it over his skin in the bathtub before lifting him out and doing the same to his back.
“I-I can’t d-do it anymore,” Dylan cried as I wound my arm around his waist, urging him to take a step.
“You are doing it. It’s almost over.” I had no idea if my words were the truth, but I had to hope they were for both of our sakes. Honestly, I felt like I couldn’t do it anymore either.

Nicola lives in Rochdale, England with her husband and four children (six if you include the dog and cat!) She is the author the author of the m/m romance Souls of the Knight series, and is currently working on a standalone with new boys, James and Theo, due for release early 2016. When she is not busy playing with her imaginary book friends (or talking about them with real life friends!) she can usually be found carrying out her ordinary mum/housewife/all round slave duties. Oh, and if the kids ever ask, she moonlights as the Pink Power Ranger while they're sleeping...
