Where do the stories come from
The stories are friends - almost literally. Each of my stories contains friends, is written for friends and sometimes leaves me with the aching for a friend. The stories started when I was a child. On rainy afternoons when we were condemned to play inside my friends challenged me to tell them a story which we then enacted with dolls and toys and kitchen implements. There is a reason why we all, now mothers and fathers ourselves, walk first into our children’s rooms when we are searching for a spatula or cooking spoon. They make great swords and axes.
I was an accident child, the product of a misdiagnosis of infertility on my father’s side, and born before either of my parent’s had finished their education. As a result my parents took turns working and going to university. Today I know how admirable that was - then I only knew it meant we moved regularly. So when we moved I would keep on writing the stories (or originally drawing them) for friends through letters, over the phone and, later, scribbled on coffeehouse receipts and beer mats snatched up in a myriad of railway stations across Europe. Sometimes it was just a line written in black felt-tip on the arm of a friend as they took me to the station.
In many ways my childhood was idyllic. Until I was ten we lived in little villages in commuting distance to my parent’s universities or work. Being left to my own devices most afternoons (German schools let you out at one and my mother would return at three thirty) I roamed across the land fighting ogres and meeting elves all in the companionship of a varying group of trusted companions.
Other stories became a lifeline. When I was thirteen my grandmother was diagnosed with cancer. For the next five years, one week out of four, I would spend every afternoon in the hospital feeling her stories throughout ever more gruelling chemotherapy treatments. In between, when we were waiting to see if the cancer had given up, we used the stories to hide the fear, and eventually the desperation. I was eighteen when she died and some of my stories went away with her.
Through seven years of acrimony and petty rivalries that became my parent’s divorce, through living and studying in four countries, through times in which I took any job just to scratch together the money for university, through long nights and end of month money worries my stories grew, being sent across Europe to friends, coming back to me with laughter and tears, my stories grew - and changed. They still contain elves and ogres, aliens and knights. My characters still fight the inequalities and injustices of the world to stand for the innocent and weak but often that fight is in their own minds. And just as I have grown up, so have my stories - the characters developing through love and hate, through friendship and war, through sex and eroticism. What they all have in common is that it is their emotions, their relationships to each other, that defines and challenges them.

Quickly he attached a second cuff on her other thigh and tightened the ankle restraints, leaving her laid out on the bed, restrained and open, her legs parted and bent, entirely helpless and accessible to his touch.
"You have no idea how beautiful you are like this – splayed for my desire, unable to resist the pleasure I can give you." It was his voice that kept the rising panic at bay. She felt the bed dip on her side and knew he had come to kneel beside her, but the first real touch was a soft kiss on her belly, a loving touch more than a seduction. Then his hands began to play over her in gentle caresses and soft massages, touching her everywhere without a pattern that would have forewarned her. One moment his hands were playing along her flank, over her hipbone, the next they circled her wrists above the restraints, reminding her of them, or massaged along her thigh. But he never touched her pussy or let even the gentlest movement play over her breasts. This absence made her skin there hungry and sensitive to him, more so than he could have done with hands or lips. She started to burn, inside out, every cell of her body reorienting itself to him, her mind consumed entirely by the expectation of his touch. Her ears followed his movements, her nose noticing his scent over that of the fire and her own arousal. When his lips engulfed her nipple in wet, hot sensation, a strange sound was torn from her, a sound somewhere between a moan and a cry. His encouragement became a caress of its own on her sensitized skin.
"Sing for me, Kathryn. Let me hear your pleasure.”
He took his time with her breasts, sucking, licking, never pushing her endurance but centring all her attention on his mouth over her nipples and his hands roving over her body. Only when she felt both her breasts swollen and heavy, her nipples taut and engorged, did he let up. Her breath was panting and as he sat up, removing his hands from her, she whimpered from abandonment, not pleasure. Every aspect of her demanded his touch, his scent, his voice – him.
His dark laughter rose to engulf her.
"Shh, now. We have only just started. I am here, always at your side. Remember that to get relief you only have to tell me something intimate, something I cannot guess or reason out for myself. A secret of your heart." As he spoke she heard the sound of a bottle opening, and the smell of peppermint permeated the room. She felt the touch of a cool cloth over nipples, leaving behind a slight wetness, nothing else. She was distracted from the new sensation by the hand gently stroking along her thigh to her vagina, a teasing touch cumulating in a finger stroking along her labia, collecting the moisture at her entrance and spreading it along the length to circle once over her clitoris. Then she felt a second cloth stroking along each side of her engorged clitoris, not touching directly but applying something to the skin around it. And suddenly there was a burn – a warming of her skin first but then heat in ever increasing intensity.

I turn to walk to the gate and I hear, “Wait. Brooklyn, wait.” I turn around and see Fitz, running full speed toward me and I cover my mouth with my hand. I look at Poopy and she shrugs her shoulders. “I swear I had no idea.” Fitz reaches me and holds onto the top of my arms, breathing heavily. “Brooklyn, stay. The thought of you leaving is killing me, I can’t bare it. I want you here, with me.” Tears running down my cheeks, I look into his blue eyes and my heart shatters in my chest. The hope I see in them makes this the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. “I can’t Fitz. I have to go.” “You don’t get it do you? We may not have crossed any lines physically, but my heart did. I fell for you Brooklyn,” he says and starts to move in for a kiss. I step back and shake my head as I try to contain a sob. “I can’t. I’m so sorry Fitz.” I can’t wait for him to reply because I am so close to letting him convince me that this is where I belong. So with my heart broken, my stomach in my throat and the best parts of me left behind with Fitz, I walk through the gate that will take me back to where I came from.

Tell us about your title featured in this set:
Cardiac Melody tells the story of Melody and the Paramedic she falls for after literally falling for him. I liked the play between cardiac, of the heart, and the name, so I mushed them together. I’m funny like that. When thinking about a medical romance, the BDSM side shouted, hey, how about a newbie that gets hurt and meets someone who can really show her the ropes (pun intended). It came together pretty quickly after that.
Tell us something about yourself: I live in Edmonton, Alberta with my husband and daughter. My day jobs include environmental consultant and lunch supervisor, because, y’know, two jobs wasn’t enough. I do have a Science degree and my specialty is native plants. It’s a good thing school is out in July and August or I’d have no time to think!
Tell us about your writing process:
My stories all revolve around character. The basic plots come most often in the form of She is trying to convince Him of Conflict. As I build those characters, I often meet their friends, relatives, pets and other pressures that build the story. I tend to write chronologically, but when I hit a block, I try to jump ahead and then fill in the gap later.
What is your favorite genre to read?
Audiobooks. I have found my reading very spotty and my concentration isn’t always able to slow down to the pace I read. Audiobooks let my hands and analytical brain do other things so the rest can actually enjoy the story.
What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about?
Leaving a better world for my daughter. I try to do that in the way I live, my job, and our family choices. For instance, we only have one car, which my husband needs to get to work (no buses that way). We walk to school and work. It’s one of the reasons I love ebooks. Save the trees and all that.
When you are not writing, what do you like to do?
There are several handicrafts I enjoy. Crochet, needlepoint and recently I’ve taken up adult coloring. It is wonderfully relaxing.
If someone who hasn’t read any your books asked you to describe your story in this set (the elevator pitch!) what would you say?

Curling Up with Muffy and a Good Book
Important things first, are these sheets silk or cotton?
Ha!! When I was younger, aaaaaand single, they were always red silk sheets, like most of my underwear. It is a mindset. I was independent, self-reliant and did whatever I wanted whenever I wanted—pretty much like the men I worked with at the time. I was the Midwest Regional Director of the Real Estate and Construction Division with IBM. I worked hard, travelled frequently and had to check hotel menus often enough to find out what city I was in! There was always a bar and a restaurant downstairs and the temptation the anonymity offered was often too much for me to deny. Anyway, I valued the sanctuary of my home and my own bed along with the indulgence of silk sheets. I know! You thought it was the other way around and that I did all my catting on my silk sheets…hahaha! Well, sometimes I was indiscriminate and I did. But, my silk sheets were like my little self-indulgence, like Belgium Chocolate, Irish butter and Chevas Brothers Lochan Ora. Some things were just for me. Anymore, after thirty years of marriage, I am afraid we would find ourselves slipped to the floor like molten lava if we slept on silk sheets.
What are you wearing?
Listen to you! I have my hair pulled into a ponytail and a red ribbon. I am in a spaghetti strapped black summer shift (it is nearing 90 here in SWFL on this early morning with the sun reflecting off of the pool) and I'm barefoot. My face is scrubbed and I am not wearing any undies, not even a thong! There are blessings to an empty nest!
What are we snacking on in bed while we read tonight?
Oh, hot tea and cold chocolate. Belgium chocolate melts so evenly and deliciously in bed. It is never far from my nightstand. Something’s never change. Even though there are no more silk sheets, there is always Belgium chocolate and Cristal Champagne, the Wine of Tsars and Stars, both of which I am, or can be, in bed.
If I open this nightstand drawer, what will I find?
You are a Nosey Nellie!! And there are two: one may have a fun pack and the other just the remote and not too virginal vibrating balls! Let’s just go for the fun pack and hang the suspense! As you would expect, there are extension cords and spare batteries (just in case), a few favorite toys (some are the dog's!), the real stash is in the dresser (!) and a .38 snub-nosed revolver and no it is not a “Midnight Special”. There are creams and ointments and my collections of silk and satin scarves, a throwback from my traveling days.
Do you roll up in the blankets like a burrito, or kick the covers off during the night?
I sleep on my back, open to the night, my dreams and inspiration floating in from any source. In Florida, I sleep in light shorty lingerie without blankets. In the north, I curl up, my husband tells me, near the foot of the bed wrapped in the warming comfort of velour blankets. My blood has gotten thinner down here and I have a low tolerance for freezing temperatures anymore. But, I do have to admit, it is certainly more conductive to warm-up sex!
Can I put my cold feet on your calves to warm them up?
Yes, you can, and please do. But you will pay for the convenience, in a big way, and perhaps more than once! Clearly, we have to get your blood warmed up and moving around and around—even back and forth! Although, you might consider a cold-toe fuck, another fine way to warm up your pinkies.

Curiously, she was unafraid to walk the night between the underbelly of society that lives in the darkness.It was probably just like the night her sister was murdered. She was probably troubled by the same things—haunted by the depths of her own depravity. The clack-clack-clack of her heels on the sidewalk announced her approach as she headed…where? Home? That was a laugh. It made her think of the first time—her first time, maybe her sister’s first time—on the streets and in the black flesh pits of San Francisco that served up watered down whiskey, easy women and the finest drug connections money could buy, steal or cheat. Shrouded in the black lies hidden by the night, she did whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted and with whomever she wanted. The rain always had that effect, kept the good ones home while the creeps washed out of every skank black hole.It was like that her first night…and he was a creep. But she did him anyway, holding her breath as he huffed, thrust, and panted into her young pink mouth. She thought of her kid sister. Was he the one?The police didn’t know and had no more leads. What was she to do? She had to find out; she had to help. At least, she had to try.But, she got swept away in the trying.If she had any doubt about what she had become, it vanished with that blow-job stuffed into her sweet Mona Lisa smile. Every night since, her skirts got shorter and the nights longer and the creeps, well, the creeps were all still creeps. It was getting harder to remember what her kid sister looked like and why she was here. It was getting harder and harder…and easier, too. There were nights she didn’t care who killed her sister and there were nights she could think of little else. The line between purpose and obsession became obscure. She could question how she wound up on the streets, but she already knew. It was a matter of choice—her choice—and the men, the trail of men in her life, were a matter of choice too—her choice and hers alone. She picked them; they didn’t pick her. ExcerptMolly slid from her barstool. “I can imagine a lot of things.”Brandon offered his arm. When she rested her hand in the crook of his elbow, a new rush of want seared through him. Her soft palm against his bare skin sent a series of delicious images through his thoughts.
They only passed a handful of people between the bar and the elevator, and he was relieved when they were alone in the car. The glass walls were the only thing that kept him from pressing her against the doors and stealing a taste before they reached their destination.
The ride to the top floor seemed to take an eternity, but at least there was no one else around once they got there. He slid a hand into her back pocket, and she leaned against him as she led the way. Her hands trembled when she swiped the key through the lock.
The moment they were in her room, he spun to face her. He twisted his fingers in her hair, pushed her back to the door, and pressed his lips to hers. She whimpered and shifted against him, digging her fingers into his arms and holding him close.
They broke apart with a gasp, but he didn’t let go. “I’ve wanted to do this all day.”
She caught her bottom lip between her teeth. “Did it live up to the fantasy?”
He stepped back, grasped her fingers, and tugged her toward the bed. “Left it in the dust.”
He rested a hand on the side of her face and trailed a line over her cheek with his thumb. Her flushed skin seared his palm. Desire thrummed through him at the want reflected in her hazel eyes. He brushed his lips across hers, barely making contact. She gasped and closed her eyelids. He traced her jawline to her neck. Every time she made a soft noise, she rubbed against him.
