1. Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Ford Sawyer in Nora Roberts’ Tribute is probably my favorite. He’s not the typical romance novel hero. He’s a graphic novelist with so many layers. At first blush, he’s not at all an alpha male, but when he needs to be…oh, yeah. I think I’ve read that book three or four times and listened to it on audio. I’d like to meet Ford.

2. What is your most treasured possession?
I’d say my family, but I don’t think of them as possessions. I have a beautiful pin my dad gave to my mom when they were first married. It means a lot to me.

3. What is your greatest fear?
I don’t even have to think about this one. I’m claustrophobic, so elevators and the idea of being trapped in one has had me hiking up and down a lot of stairs. I trekked down forty-four stories in NYC once because all the elevators were too crowded.

4. Who or what has been the greatest love of your life?
My husband, Dave. We met when I was seventeen. That was the luckiest day of my life.

5. What is your favorite journey?
I traveled throughout Ireland with two fellow SWFRWs one summer. We picked up our rental car in the middle of Dublin at noon. Yikes. Then we drove around the country, stopping along the way and staying in B&Bs. A highlight was the cottage we rented in Bantry that overlooked the sea.

6. What do you most value in a friend?
Loyalty and a sense of humor above all else.

7. What quality do you most admire in a woman?
My mother told me a long, long time ago that if I really wanted something done, I’d better find a way to make it happen myself. That was great advice. I like—and write about—strong, independent women.

8. Which book that you’ve written is your favorite?
It’s one that’s written but not published—Death in the Bayou. It’s the story of three Southern women on the brink of change, bound unknowingly by their grandmothers’ friendship, a Creole’s whispered voodoo prophecy, a trio of identical bracelets…and murder.

9. Does writing energize or exhaust you?
I find it energizing. When I’m really into a book, I live and breathe it. Hours can pass without my realizing it.

11. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
I do a lot of my research on-line. Most of it’s done as I’m writing because I don’t always know beforehand what I’m going to need. Too, while researching, I often find something that adds to the story or changes the plotline for the better. It’s really important for writers to not get so bogged down in the research that they don’t ever get around to writing.

12. How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Deadlines take on a life of their own once you’re under contract. I like to say that an unpublished writer is an aspiring author while a published, under-contract writer is a perspiring one.

13. What are you working on now?
I’m working on a new series about bachelors and babies for Sourcebooks. I’m doing promo on book one, Must Love Babies, which releases June 5th, just finished and sent off the edits on book two, and am writing book three.

14. How did you come up with the idea for your book?
For this latest series, I was on a cruise with my editor and we sat on the deck brainstorming till we came up with the bare bones for something we both liked.

15. What inspires you to write?
I love to write. It’s something I have to do. That sounds simplistic, but it’s true.

16. What would your friends say is your best quality?
I keep great secrets. J

17. Tell us about your other books?
Must Love Babies will be my thirteenth published book. I’ve written stand-alones, light romance, romantic suspense, and am on my third series…and am still enjoying the process. The fun thing about my new release is that it’s also coming out as an audiobook with Eric Michael Summerer as narrator.

18. Are there any nuggets of wisdom you can impart to aspiring writers?
If you really want to write, just do it. It’s that butt in chair, hands on the keyboard. It’s discipline. Don’t wait for your muse to show up or blame writer’s block. Just write. The words will come.

19. What are your Top Writing Tips?
Keep writing, keep working the craft, and keep learning. Enter contests and go to conferences and local writers’ meetings. Add a large bag of perseverance and a huge jar of hope to your writer’s tool kit. Writing is a profession—and it can be a very hard one. It’s one that requires thick skin because rejection is, unfortunately, part of the business. It hurts, but after a sufficient period of mourning, take that rejection letter or email out and really study it. If the book needs editing and polishing, do it, then send it back out. Sometimes, though, that particular manuscript needs put away. It’s time to start a new book. Be honest with yourself.

1. Who is your favorite hero of fiction?
Ford Sawyer in Nora Roberts’ Tribute is probably my favorite. He’s not the typical romance novel hero. He’s a graphic novelist with so many layers. At first blush, he’s not at all an alpha male, but when he needs to be…oh, yeah. I think I’ve read that book three or four times and listened to it on audio. I’d like to meet Ford.

2. What is your most treasured possession?
I’d say my family, but I don’t think of them as possessions. I have a beautiful pin my dad gave to my mom when they were first married. It means a lot to me.

3. What is your greatest fear?
I don’t even have to think about this one. I’m claustrophobic, so elevators and the idea of being trapped in one has had me hiking up and down a lot of stairs. I trekked down forty-four stories in NYC once because all the elevators were too crowded.

4. Who or what has been the greatest love of your life?
My husband, Dave. We met when I was seventeen. That was the luckiest day of my life.

5. What is your favorite journey?
I traveled throughout Ireland with two fellow SWFRWs one summer. We picked up our rental car in the middle of Dublin at noon. Yikes. Then we drove around the country, stopping along the way and staying in B&Bs. A highlight was the cottage we rented in Bantry that overlooked the sea.

6. What do you most value in a friend?
Loyalty and a sense of humor above all else.

7. What quality do you most admire in a woman?
My mother told me a long, long time ago that if I really wanted something done, I’d better find a way to make it happen myself. That was great advice. I like—and write about—strong, independent women.

8. Which book that you’ve written is your favorite?
It’s one that’s written but not published—Death in the Bayou. It’s the story of three Southern women on the brink of change, bound unknowingly by their grandmothers’ friendship, a Creole’s whispered voodoo prophecy, a trio of identical bracelets…and murder.

9. Does writing energize or exhaust you?
I find it energizing. When I’m really into a book, I live and breathe it. Hours can pass without my realizing it.

11. What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
I do a lot of my research on-line. Most of it’s done as I’m writing because I don’t always know beforehand what I’m going to need. Too, while researching, I often find something that adds to the story or changes the plotline for the better. It’s really important for writers to not get so bogged down in the research that they don’t ever get around to writing.

12. How did publishing your first book change your process of writing?
Deadlines take on a life of their own once you’re under contract. I like to say that an unpublished writer is an aspiring author while a published, under-contract writer is a perspiring one.

13. What are you working on now?
I’m working on a new series about bachelors and babies for Sourcebooks. I’m doing promo on book one, Must Love Babies, which releases June 5th, just finished and sent off the edits on book two, and am writing book three.

14. How did you come up with the idea for your book?
For this latest series, I was on a cruise with my editor and we sat on the deck brainstorming till we came up with the bare bones for something we both liked.

15. What inspires you to write?
I love to write. It’s something I have to do. That sounds simplistic, but it’s true.

16. What would your friends say is your best quality?
I keep great secrets. J

17. Tell us about your other books?
Must Love Babies will be my thirteenth published book. I’ve written stand-alones, light romance, romantic suspense, and am on my third series…and am still enjoying the process. The fun thing about my new release is that it’s also coming out as an audiobook with Eric Michael Summerer as narrator.

18. Are there any nuggets of wisdom you can impart to aspiring writers?
If you really want to write, just do it. It’s that butt in chair, hands on the keyboard. It’s discipline. Don’t wait for your muse to show up or blame writer’s block. Just write. The words will come.

19. What are your Top Writing Tips?
Keep writing, keep working the craft, and keep learning. Enter contests and go to conferences and local writers’ meetings. Add a large bag of perseverance and a huge jar of hope to your writer’s tool kit. Writing is a profession—and it can be a very hard one. It’s one that requires thick skin because rejection is, unfortunately, part of the business. It hurts, but after a sufficient period of mourning, take that rejection letter or email out and really study it. If the book needs editing and polishing, do it, then send it back out. Sometimes, though, that particular manuscript needs put away. It’s time to start a new book. Be honest with yourself.
