Kit Gigante Origami / Coffret Geant Origami
Produced by the same publishers as “Intriguing Origami” and “British Origami”, this takes a few designs from the former and re-packages them with loads of highly patterned paper, albeit somewhat “vivid” for my tastes! The paper comes in three different sizes, is thin, crisp and each pattern is backed with a solid colour.
Published in French and Italian (so far).

Llarga Catalunya viu
Just back from an extraordinary weekend in Badalona at the A-PLEC conference. Exhausting n both the mind and the feet, it was an opportunity to make many wonderful new friends and to learn about Catalonia, a subject upon which I was extremely ignorant. Full report to follow, when I have found some energy and caught up on emails!
Here’s an emotional moment with Joan Sallas, Marieke De Hoop and my new friend Pere Bernat at the close of the event.

nice to get thanks
I’m not wildly ego-driven, but it is nice when you get words of praise. I recently had a moving email from Jake E Hobbs of the USA, a guitarist (like me) who has gone deaf in one ear. I can only begin to imagine the mental torment he’s having. However, he picked up a copy of my Dummies book recently and it has fired him up to fold as a way forward. he said;
“However, thanks to you and your inspiration, I am able to get out of bed with vim and vigor while challenging myself with the Origami. A bazillion thank’s for that.”
It’s made my day. Something good has come out of a book that was (to my mind) near ruined by random relaying of diagrams.

Mattias Jones
I went for a hot choccy in the lovely Cafe#9 in Sheffield and saw some advanced origami tesselations lying around. I asked who made them – “that guy sat outside”! So I met Matt Jones, a local artist who is obsessed with shapes and patterns. He spoke eloquently about shapes in paper and I hope he may share his thoughts with the BOS at some point.
Here’s a video where he talks about his work. His site is www.madebyjones.com

Interpretation…
Just been admiring some extraordinarily detailed origami hermit crabs, complete with legs, antennae, eye stalks etc. What a wonderful art where that can happily co-exist alongside my own minimalist interpretation ;)

Workshops in Lincoln
I’ve got two workshops this wednesday in Lincoln, one is sold out, not sure about the other. It’s part of a Japanese festival. Not sure about the image they chose from my site to promote this, I’m now beardless again ;)

Paulo’s Dish
I had a recent request from America to teach this design at a forthcoming PCOC convention.
It was named in honour of Paulo Mulatinho. Checking the diagrams it became apparent that I hadn’t touched them since the day they were created for my origami Bible book, way back when.
So, I updated them and in the process, took this photo. Whilst not what you’d call a dramatic or revolutionary design, It’s one of my favourite “dishes”, with minimal locking required. I hope you enjoy it ;)

Angel Ori in Korean
The latest translation of my book Angel Origami is out, this time in Korean! It joins French, Finnish, Hungarian and Portuguese.
It’s my second Korean translation (the other being Encyclopedia of Origami). I’m delighted, since Korea is a hotbed of origami these days.
The cover is lightly embossed and made from a very tactile type of card. Overall, it looks beautiful.
You can buy it here, if your speak the language!
My eye was drawn by one art step, which features a hand drawn by my old friend Paulo Mulatinho. Since I’m not clever enough to draw attractive hands, I asked him to draw me a few back in the 90s and I still use them, they are so beautiful ;)
