Kit Gigante Origami – 10 Fantasie Kimono
Produced by the same publishers as “Intriguing Origami” and “British Origami” and companion to an earlier package, four new sets of diagrams were commissioned for the enclosed booklet, along with 300 sheets of highly patterned paper. The paper comes in three different sizes, is thin, crisp and each pattern is backed with a solid colour. Each model has a link to a private tutorial video.
The designs are my own, except for the Kettle, whch is by Adolfo Cerceda. Published in French and Italian (so far).

Good Cod, nearly fin-ished
The artwork for my Fishigami book is now complete and is the hands of the inestimable Himanshu, who is proof-folding them. The last few designs of mine took some drawing, since I kept finding better sequences as I worked. Next stage is the photography, so my bedroom becomes a studio once again. Here are some of the files.

And it’s goodnight from him….
Farewell to the “other” Ronnie, (Corbett) who passed today. One of their scripts inspired this creation…

British Science Week
I recently ran some sessions as part of British Science Week, in a venue called the Inman Pavilion, in Stocksbridge. The sessions included;
Sunday March 13th 10.00am – 12.00: Introductory workshop – A guide to origami for complete beginners, focussing on interesting designs, folding techniques and exploring your creativity.
1.00pm – 3.00pm: Introductory workshop – As above
Thursday March 17th 5.00pm – 6.00pm: Short workshop for children and carers
A selection of simple designs aimed at younger folders. The idea is for parents/carers to fold alongside children and enjoy being creative together.
6.30pm – 8.30pm: Workshop for those working with people of all ages and abilities in education, leisure, play, therapy or anyone who might want to add a low-cost, stimulating activity to their repertoire. Lots of ideas about how to include origami in your workplace.
There was a good mixture of children and adults and we had a great deal of fun. The models were slanted to illustrate some mathematical concepts, for example 45 and 60 degree protractors.
Many thanks to the indefatigable Beryl Sharp for organising this so well.

Lesson via skype
I’ve just given my first commercial origami lesson using skype, with a young girl from Manchester pictured below (pixellated for privacy). I’d invested in a new webcam and used software to integrate an overhead view with a conventional view, to create a friendlier environment (bottom right of the image). The lesson lasted an hour and we folded a variety of simple designs, for which I sent her diagrams to print out. All in all, a great success and I hope I can find more of this type of work.
