The late Jesse Robredo was a recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award, Like Magsaysay, Robredo perished in a tragic plane crash that made the nation mourn. This 1957 photo shows the search and rescue team going over the crash site where they found a flag with the seal of the President of the Philippines.

Juan Luna did more than paint on the walls of his prison cell in Fort Santiago. His brother Antonio was also implicated in the Philippine Revolution of 1896. They were treated quite well: Antonio had books and writing materials, Juan was allowed his paint box resulting in this picture now preserved in the National Museum.
