Graffiti by Juan Luna on the wall of the Fort Santiago cell where he was imprisoned with his brother Antonio. They were implicated in the outbreak of the Philippine Revolution of 1896 but were pardoned by the Queen of Spain.Too bad these and other graffiti were not preserved.

Trece de agosto is an old street in Manila. August 13 was formerly celebrated as "Occupation Day" to mark the day in 1898 when the Spanish, holed up in Intramuros surrounded by Fiipino troops under Emilio Aguinaldo, arranged a sham battle with the Americans who bombarded Fort San Antonio Abad (present Bangko Sentral on Rocas Boulevard) to effect the surrender of Spanish Manila to the US not to the Filipinos. That is how the Philippines passed from the Spanish flag to the Stars and Stripes in one day.
