THANK YOU GRAB
THANK YOU GRAB
Thanks to Jaypee, Grab Executive Escalations Team, my issue with the missing Senior PWD Discount has been resolved.
He advised re-installing the app to a more updated version and voila! the discounted fare is back. However, unlike before it is not given as the first option. You have to scroll to the bottom to find it :)
Those who have the same issue please reinstall the app and let us know if the solution works for you as well.

Is this just a glitch or should I report Grab to LTFRB?
Is this just a glitch or should I report Grab to LTFRB? Since Monday the Senior PWD fare is not available. That’s a government mandated discount.

My Inquirer column today on EDSA 1986 as seen from US State Department documents now declassified and available online. With many primary sources accessible we hope to see new work on the period informing our social media feeds.
As "everyone's favorite historian" I recommend are the FB pages of Xiao Chua and Mighty Magulang, more so the engaging EDSA chronology published by DLSU Professor Jose Victor Torres the past last few days.

On the front page of the New York Times of February 25, 1986 are the photos of two oaths taken in Manila. We had two presidents: Ferdinand Marcos and Corazon Aquino. The U.S. broke the tie by evacuating Marcos from Malacañang to Hawaii and recognizing Cory as the rightful president. But then even if the U.S. chose Marcos how could he govern in the face of People Power?

Teaching my students how to read old manuscripts.
Sorry for the late posting. This should be read with my Inquirer column on teaching my undergrad history students how to read 19th century notarial documents in old Tagalog.
Knowing that many students have difficulty reading cursive I gave then this document from 1853 that begins with a prayer
+Sa mahal na ngalan ng S[antisi]ma Trinidad Dios Ama Dios Anac Dios Espiritu Santo Tatlong persona at yang Dios na totoo Amen.

One of the rare issues of La Solidaridad that has a photograph is from September 15, 1894
One of the rare issues of La Solidaridad that has a photograph is from September 15, 1894. Ferdinand Blumentritt is on the front page. This is one of the interesting items in the Blumentritt papers, State Archives of Bohemia, Ceske Budejovice. I had only two days to rush through the boxes. I hope to return someday and go through every item in the collection at leisure. Many thanks to the Czech Embassy in Manila and Ambassador Jarodlsv Olsa for arranging a two week trip to trace Filipiniana in CZ...

Mayors Past and Present
Mayors Past and Present.
I bump into Makati Mayor Abby Binay often at the Sunday Legazpi Market. Today, [Bottom] we chatted over a Sharon Cuneta record at the vinyl stall.I told her it's good to see the mayor walking about her city because I used to see Lito Atienza (Manila Mayor 1998-2007) walking on Sundays at the then Legazpi open Carpark.
By coincidence, Atienza and his wife Beng were also in the Legazpi market [Bottom]. I once served as President of the then City College of Mani...
