Día del Libro 2025
Sharing a photo from the Instituto Cervantes de Manila album for 2025 Dia del Libro. It was a hot day cooled by the wind that blew things away from the table where I signed for over two hours. I cannot say thank you enough for all the readers who keep me researching, writing, and producing books. The moments connecting while I sign books or smile for selfies are precious, if only to know how words can educate, entertain, and touch others.

Pardon the sloppy camera work, I only slept 3 hours between a H-hour Easter Vigil at Ss Peter and Paul church in Poblacion Makati and Salubong in Malabon at 5am this morning.
The image of the Risen Christ meets his sorrowful mother, then a dive descends and pulls away her mourning veil to music, applause, and firecrackers. It is rousing to feel such devotion. Happy Easter!

Kitchen in the Medina Heritage house in Arayat, Pampanga. Thought the bamboo contraption suspended from the ceiling was a “bitin” for a children’s game. It’s actually a place to keep food from rats, ants, and the hungriest creatures in the house—people.

Throwback Tuesday
Throwback Tuesday.
Mario Vargas Llosa (1936-2025). Nobel Laureate for Literature visited Manila in 2016. I was able to chat with him over a dinner where all eyes were on Isabel Preysler.
My two columns on that dinner conversation in the Comments.

Why collect hippopotamus? I asked Nobel Prize Laureate Mario Vargas Llosa.
"They are vegetarian," he replied, "they make love every day."

When the narrat trees shed to form an orange carpet on the ground it was Graduation time. I never noticed that after narra the kapok trees shed forming a white carpet on the ground. I put some on my hand wondering how these use to stuff pillows in the past,

Have you tried tracing your family tree as far back as possible?
Have you tried tracing your family tree as far back as possible?
Jose Rizal did so on a piece of paper preserved by his friend Trinidad H. Pardo de Tavera, now in the Special Collections, Ateneo de Manila Rizal Library.
Another family tree was drawn by Rizal on one of the pages of his manuscript fortune telling game “La Sybila Cumana.”
This is right up the alley of Mighty Magulang.
