What’s Cooking Wednesday – Almond-Crusted Turkey Tenderloins

Almond-Crusted Turkey Tenderloins

Almond Crusted Turkey Tenderloin

In the Interview Room – Steve Marvel part 2

Steve MarvelSteve Marvel my Mapleton Mystery narrator is back with the second part of his interview.

How do you keep all the voices straight?
I typically concoct and record all the major character voices for a book after I’ve read it through and before I begin the narration. I keep a file of those audio clippings open on my computer as I record the narration and refer to it as needed to remind me of my choices for each.

How closely do you work with the author?
That tends to vary by author and publisher....

My Powering Through Method of Writing

3 Ps of the writing processLast week I said I might show you how I “power through” when I start writing. Here’s an example, a rough draft of the first time we see Holly Granger. My intention here is to get words down and go back and answer the questions as they come to me. You can see all the [XXX] placeholders where I don’t want to waste time thinking about details. Unlike those following the NaNoWriMo “rules” of not going back, I will stop and fill in blanks as soon as I have answers. In fact, I print out each scene...

Three P’s of Writing. Plot, Plan, or Power Through?

3 Ps of the writing processNovember is NaNoWriMo time, and although it’s not for me, I know there are a lot of folks out there striving to hit word counts and get 50,000 words written before the month ends. My feeling is NaNo works best for those who have at least a semblance of a plot to use as a roadmap. At the very least, a plan for the book.

And, since I was going to be starting a new project, I told myself that this time, I was going to have at least a skeleton of a plot before I started. Once I’d determined I was...

What’s Cooking Wednesday – Easy Shrimp Salad

When relatives showed up in town and suggested getting together for lunch, I invited them to see our place and needed something quick and easy to put together. This recipe lends itself to variations based on personal tastes, and I offered it with sandwich and salad options.

Easy Shrimp Salad – Two Ways

Shrimp Salad

Ingredients:
1 lb tiny peeled cooked shrimp, thawed
1 c celery, chopped
1 c carrot, shredded
c green onion, chopped (any ‘oniony’ variation is fine: regular onions, chives, shallots, etc.)
2...

In the Interview Room – Steve Marvel part 1

Steve MarvelWhen I was listening to auditions for my Pine Hills Police series, there was a memorable audition. Although his voice wasn’t quite right for that series, when I was ready to start getting my Mapleton Mystery series into audiobook format, I remembered Steve Marvel and asked if he’d like to narrate them. Deadly Secrets is live now, and he’s working on Deadly Bones. I thought you might like a look at his take on being an audiobook narrator.

A little bit about your background “qualifications” as...
